"He has confused the proud in their conceit."
Incredulity after reading the comments and posts in reaction to the title of Venerable conferred upon His Holiness, Pope Paul VI...
This stood out: "He wasn't a very good pope. He was a weak pope." And: "In trying to make sense of this, in connection with Paul VI and what seems to many to be a lack of positive accomplishments according to his state in life..."
Simply amazing.
Christ then wasn't a very good Messiah, was He...
He was spurned and avoided by men, a man of suffering, accustomed to infirmity, One of those from whom men hide their faces, spurned, and we held him in no esteem.
Yet it was our infirmities that he bore, our sufferings that he endured, While we thought of him as stricken, as one smitten by God and afflicted. - Isaiah 53
You don't get much "weaker" do you, than when you're hanging on a cross condemned as a common criminal.
ReplyDeletePope Paul VI, in the face of tremendous opposition, gave us what I feel is the most important, and certainly most prophetic, document, of the 20th Century. If that's not heroic virtue, then there is no such thing.
It saddens me tremendously that the biggest cynics are those who call themselves "traditional" Catholics. Some of them are showing themselves no better than the "progressives" that they criticize.
How sad to see so many "orthodox" bloggers having hissy fits over this. They, being "orthodox" should submit to the Holy Father.
ReplyDeleteseriously....comparing what Christ did to what Paul VI did?....it doesn't get any richer than that. Other than Humanae Vitae (which I liken to John 11:51), his pontificate was appalling, and its fruit was pretty fetid. Sorry, it's simple fact. You can hurl as much invective and ad hominem insult at the people who point out fact, but it doesn't change fact.
ReplyDeleteonce again, for a brief tutorial....

or are you all too star-struck to actually read some history? I'm not saying he's in hell; I'm saying he was a bad pope...we've had a few of them, and I believe Paul VI eminently qualifies.
Now go ahead...let the hair pulling and foot-stomping commence.
LOL I'm sure that God has ratified Susan's opinion since she is so imminently qualified to pass judgement on Paul VI.
