Things that don't matter: Instruction Concerning the Criteria for the Discernment of Vocations (2005)

But Father!  Lewd and lascivious behavior and indecent exposure?

But we spent three years of prayer and chastity before ordination!

That's why I bring the gay stuff up. You know, like admitting homosexuals to seminary or religious life - encouraging them in a vocation? How can spiritual directors do that? How can aspirants be so selfish but to think religious life is some sort of safe-space for them? How can they be led to believe celibate life will somehow guarantee a life of religious continence when they know they can't even stop thinking about touching themselves?

Or in the case of the two priests arrested in Florida, they can't keep from touching one another.

Two priests from the Archdiocese of Chicago were arrested Monday in Miami, after the men were reportedly found engaged in a sex act within a parked car. At least one of them was a participant in a program for Hispanic seminarians that was suspended by the Archdiocese of Chicago.
One of the priests, Father Diego Berrio, is the pastor of Misión San Juan Diego in Arlington Heights, Illinois. He was also appointed this summer the interim “coordinator of the Office for Extern and International Priests.” The other priest, Father Edwin Cortez, reportedly listed the parish as his address when he was arrested, but CNA could not confirm whether he is assigned to the parish.
The priests were both charged with lewd conduct, and Father Cortez was also charged with indecent exposure.
Father Berrio was ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of Chicago in 2008. Father Berrio was a judge on the Metropolitan Tribunal from 2014 to the present.   Finish reading here.

These poor guys may suffer from SSA, but they are not at all gay... don't ever say they are gay.

Perhaps many can start by attending this conference, they may learn a thing or two. The Catholic hierarchy would benefit especially bishops, spiritual directors, seminary rectors, laity who are confused about what the Church teaches regarding sexuality.

If I lived closer I would attend so as to learn to understand the Splendor of Truth in this particular area.

  2. Ok, we have a mental health problem now to add to the long list of issues that need addressed in our clergy. These guys in this story are exhibiting severe DSM IV symptoms. Probably of a personality disorder. Extreme socially inappropriate, high risk behavior that adds to the excitement of said behavior. Probably not the first time either. As the ranks of the ordained ministry inevitably decrease we will need some kind of replacements. I wonder if video Mass, like the ones for shut ins is in our future. I was reflecting on how very sad this whole scandal in. Priests were once so respected. Highly educated and positive forces in the community. Scientists, educators, really high level distinguished men. Is that all gone now? Can a few (or more then a few) bad actors destroy all that? I hope not. The anti-Catholic forces which have always been there are now been given help in making us all look like fools. Stay, leave, defend, accuse, destroy everything. I guess we just keep riding this train. Let he revelations continue. They are not what most of us are all about. Remember that. I forget and have to force myself to remember. My experience as a Catholic has only ever been good. I have a long way to God however to be a good Catholic.

  3. Autocorrect strikes again! God should read good. Sometimes though the auto correction gets the idea right if not a grammatically correct sentence. I usually copy, delete and correct. I think I will leave this one alone.

  4. I can't speak Spanish. I understand the first part so please don't translate. But does the last part say something about "firing tomatoes to surprise the police"?
