"Are we prepared to promote conditions in which the living contact with God can be reestablished? For our lives today have become godless to the point of complete vacuity. God is no longer with us in the conscious sense of the word. He is denied, ignored, excluded from every claim to have a part in our daily life." - Alfred Delp, S.J.

Memorial of St. Benedict

O Reverend Father!  What a waste of wine!

Today is the feast of St. Benedict ...

We read that monks should not drink wine at all, but since the monks of our day cannot be convinced of this, let us at least agree to drink moderately, and not to the point of excess, for wine makes even wise men go astray (Sir 19:2). - Rule Chapter 40

Ya!  Ze poisoned da vino but we made da beer!
Nottin' in ze rule 'bout dat!
Happy Feast day brudders!

  1. I wonder how many of the faithful appreciate the importance of St Benedict in the survival of Western Civilization? The monastery as an idea and organization saved the Christian world when it was about to go under. The monastery became a place of learning, culture, industry, art and architecture. It was the forerunner of the university.not to mention worship and praise of God. Thank you St Benedict.
