"Are we prepared to promote conditions in which the living contact with God can be reestablished? For our lives today have become godless to the point of complete vacuity. God is no longer with us in the conscious sense of the word. He is denied, ignored, excluded from every claim to have a part in our daily life." - Alfred Delp, S.J.

The Monk...

Crucified.

I like this image very much.

  1. Very cool ... the demons must be the seven deadly sins. The only one I can recognize is "porneia" - lust. The others are hard to read - must be some late Byzantine script or some kind of early Cyrillic.

Any Eastern rite Catholics out there who can read this stuff?

  3. Powerful image.

One of my personal favorites is Schongauer's "Temptation of St. Anthony." He is shown ravaged by demons, but with a look of steely placidity on his face.
