Very cool ... the demons must be the seven deadly sins. The only one I can recognize is "porneia" - lust. The others are hard to read - must be some late Byzantine script or some kind of early Cyrillic.
Any Eastern rite Catholics out there who can read this stuff?
One of my personal favorites is Schongauer's "Temptation of St. Anthony." He is shown ravaged by demons, but with a look of steely placidity on his face.
