"I ask you never to slander anyone, either directly or indirectly." - S. Francis de Sales

"Above all, avoid false accusations and the distortion of truth regarding your neighbor." - Francis de Sales

When one keeps repeating an apparent innocuous, albeit factual statement about another - to suggest something untoward about that person's character - it amounts to innuendo, bordering on detraction, and dangerously close to slander.

"Refraining from imputing imaginary faults to your neighbor, from revealing those which are secret and from exaggerating those which are obvious." - S. Francis de Sales

To do this in retaliation for an offense - real or imagined - doesn't make a wrong right.

Many of us online have been guilty of this.  It is better to avoid giving any credence to such writers - myself included.

  3. Terry,

I am not slandering anybody put passing this along because the truth is, I knew it was gonna happen ... but God bless Archbishop Georg Gänswein for setting the record straight, once again.

"Archbishop Georg Gänswein, Benedict XVI's personal secretary, said that those trying to use the words the pope emeritus sent for the funeral of one of the "dubia" cardinals as an attack on Pope Francis are "stupid." In his message for the July 15 funeral of German Cardinal Joachim Meisner, Benedict alluded to the Church being near "capsizing," which is a familiar image in his writing."

    1. Yup...walking it back. Could have told you this would happen. Surely Francis was displeased by what Pope Benedict said and had to "remedy" the situation. It's also interesting that just a few days later news breaks about Pope Benedict's brother and the alleged sexual abuse in the choir school he ran. The timing is VERY suspicious. Francis vengeance is swift. The message: don't talk bad about the Francis or else!
