Today is the anniversary of the 1906 Quake in San Francisco.

Then and now.

The earthquake struck at 5:12 AM, April 18, 1906.

Mr. Peabody suggests you get up early today and be nice to Archbishop Cordileone.

I would like to add that April 18 is the feast of Bl. Marie of the Incarnation, OCD - AKA Barbe Acarie, Madame Acarie. She was the foundress of the French Carmel.  Short biography here.

It's also the anniversary of my leaving the Discalced Carmelite novitiate way back when ... which is why I always remember Bl. Marie of the Incarnation.  Pray for me Blessed Marie!

  1. Ah, so that's why you're so focused on the '06 quake rather than the 1989 one. Makes sense now!

I sort of feel bad for Cordileone, but sort of not. I don't think he's the right person for this city, not because he's a stalwart enforcer of doctrine, but because he's clearly not comfortable dealing with actual people in the flesh. I know so little about him, other than the drunk driving thingy and the recent kerfuffle over the modified contract stuff. He pretty much keeps to himself.

    1. I think most people ignore what goes on with bishops and archbishops until it makes the news. I never know or look into where ours is or what he says in his weekly column. It's only after I began blogging that I started paying attention to hierarchy - it always seemed so political and - wait, I better shut up.

My dad was in out there for the '89 quake.
