I admire the guy for going out on a limb and writing things that I often think about. I think the Church has largely abandoned the way she used to think (certainly in practice): about the seriousness of sin, about the sacred/holiness, what is owed to God/the virtue of religion, about the false lure/spirit of the world, about fasting/asceticism, about other religions, etc. The more honest theologians and bishops would agree and say that is actually a good thing. But I'm more pessimistic and would say that modernism/naturalism has deeply wounded the Church, and that the Church has largely lost faith in the Gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven for the kingdom of now.
He's too combative to be taken seriously, in my opinion. I used to try and read his stuff over at National Catholic Register with an open mind but after he took a few mean spirited potshots at our Holy Father and allowed many in his combox to do the same, I stopped reading him.
I remember too, when he went hyperbole pot boiler mode with his outrageous, "The Humiliation of Cardinal Burke," after that...no more.
He does not speak for me to help me along my path of faith, quite the contrary, he turns me off so much so that if I were to keep reading his stuff, I would find myself more on the negative/critical side of things.
Terry is a witness to the faith that I relate to. He shares his faith calmly and with a good balance of charity and seriousness and humor that I find edifying. Father Barron is another excellent teacher of the faith as is Scott Hahn and well, Papa Francis.
If he makes his way over to Pathos, whatever since I would just ignore his blog like I currently do with a few others I do not find helpful for building up my walk with the Lord.
