I tend to agree with you Terry. Father Z is trying to calm down all his traditionalist readers, who constitute a large number of his readers. They are being told by others that they are now at war with Pope Francis and the rest of the Church and it's time to go to the catacombs. Father Z is trying to counter that.
I actually appreciate what Father Z is trying to do, but I don't think it's going to work. Pope Francis is the Vicar of Christ, not the Vicar of Pope Benedict XVI. I think Father Z's tactic is going to backfire on him.
Quoting Luke 2:35, I think that through Pope Francis, "the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed."
Totally agree. Might even do a post on it. I think it's totally disingenuous to think we need to interpret what this man is saying. He may indeed disagree with Pope Benedict(or JPII for that matter) on prudential matters and has every right to, and I don't like the idea that his message needs to be marketed a certain way. Francis could abrogate the TLM, there is no lens of interpretation, that's the law of the land.
Elena - hopefully that is a sign they will eventually come to love this Pope just as much. We have been blessed with holy Popes, one right after the other!

ReplyDeleteOh whatever happened to those golden halcyon days when Fr. Zed was all like, "Folks, folks, we must READ BENEDICT THROUGH JOHN PAUL!"
Yah, I know.
Well said, Terry. @Paul Stilwell: LOL

ReplyDeleteI can't help remembering when some of those same people who criticize Pope Francis were criticizing Pope Benedict and everything he did.
