June: The month dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The Twelve Promises of Jesus to Saint Margaret Mary for those Devoted to His Sacred Heart:

•I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life.
•I will establish peace in their families.
•I will console them in all their troubles.
•They shall find in My Heart an assured refuge during life and especially at the hour of their death.
•I will pour abundant blessings on all their undertakings.
•Sinners shall find in My Heart the source of an infinite ocean of mercy.
•Tepid souls shall become fervent.
•Fervent souls shall speedily rise to great perfection.
•I will bless the homes where an image of My Heart shall be exposed and honored.
•I will give to priests the power of touching the most hardened hearts.
•Those who propagate this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be effaced.
•The all-powerful love of My Heart will grant to all those who shall receive Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive months the grace of final repentance; they shall not die under my displeasure, nor without receiving their Sacraments; My heart shall be their assured refuge at that last hour.
.
"The devotion produces rich fruit and makes a great change in those who are devoted to it and earnestly practice it." - Letters of St. Margaret Mary

This is my all time favorite painting of the Sacred Heart. I have an old print of it in the rectory and if I could afford to do so I'd pay one of those artist/reproducers to make me an exact replica.

  3. Seriously, just asking, should I cancel my trip to Hedjastory for this, this, this mere approved devotion? Sheesh.

  5. I (personally) don't connect with this particular image of the Sacred Heart.

It looks like he's holding a cupcake.

  9. Not that it matters one iota, but I agree with Thom. There's something wrong about the nose. Like bad Beverly Hills plastic surgery.
I guess I prefer images of Jesus where he looks more Semitic.

  10. Thom, a cupcake? Take, eat...quit complaining.

Julie, now that you mention it.

Terry, who cares what we think? You like it, you like it.

Anyone, to clarify what *I* meant I love is the image of the Sacred Heart itself; I love that image of Jesus love and mercy and holiness. This particular rendition of that image, well, you know...

  13. I think the artist who painted the image attempted to convey the following:

“Behold the Heart that has so loved men… instead of gratitude I receive from the greater part of mankind only ingratitude..." - Words of Our Lord to St. Margaret Mary

It was framed that way, hence the oval shape. The image was painted by Pompeo Batoni in 1767; it's actually painted on a sheet of copper. It hangs above the altar in the Sacred Heart Chapel in the Jesuit's Church of the Gesu in Rome.

Michael -- I have a jpg of it in which it is "squared off" so as to show more. If you give me your email I'll send it to you.
