Journalists who defend the Holy Father and the Roman Catholic Church actually exist - even if they be few and far between, on op-ed pages and blogs. Catholic bloggers are doing a very good job refuting the claims against the Holy Father as well. I can't make this stuff my daily bread however. I can't take seriously grown up, intelligent men throwing plates of spaghetti at one another, much less supposedly sophisticated intellectuals discussing such things as arresting the Pope. Oh - it could happen - but the Vatican has its own international lawyers and professionals, and I trust they can handle these situations as they arise. I think Bishops and Cardinals and leaders of other denominations have to get on board denouncing the attacks as well.

But let's face it - this is a spiritual battle - and the majority of Catholics should be on their knees praying for the Holy Father and the conversion of sinners - their eyes fixed upon Jesus.

Pray the novena prayer for the Holy Father, and add a rosary to it - if everyone prayed a novena of rosaries, I think the enemies of the Church would be driven back. I also think it would be wonderful if priests - especially those with free schedules, would offer a novena of Masses for the Pope.

And watch the bombast - don't make a Richard Dawkins-Christopher Hitchens ass of yourself.

Exactly right. Spiritual common sense that paradoxically gets at the depth of the matter.
The same "Voice" must be speaking to both uf us:)!

I hate to pour cold water on all these lamentationist prayers, but seriously, when you meet a 'good' Catholic, when was the last time, you met one (a good catholic) that was crying over sinners, mourning their demise. As opposed from mocking.

It ranks right up there with all the "offended" people of the world. For what it's worth, I'm offended that others are offended by whatever is tweaking their fragile little egos on any given day. They all need to grow up.

ReplyDeleteIsn't that so true? The overzealousness of the apparent need of the human spirit to have a 'cause' or issue is everywhere for every possible topic-moral or immoral, pc or not pc. And what it really comes down to, I think, is that everyone, whether they realize it or not, has a deep desire and longing for Him. They're constantly fighting and searching, but their passion, talent and fight is disordered and misguided. They don't realize that they're losing, because that hole that they keep trying to fill will always be empty, and they will never be satiated until they find Him. And, of course, the 'they' is everyone to one degree or another. But as Terry said, it is a spiritual battle and the more energy you put into the right tools (prayer, fasting etc.), the stronger and more united we are as a body.
