Fr. Z Reports: Little Sisters of Mary destroyed by the Vatican Congregation for Religious

Little Sisters

Just like the Franciscans of the Immaculate.
Another group of women engaged in works of mercy has been destroyed by the Congregation for Religious.
Some time back we learned that a group of contemplative women called the Little Sisters of Mary, the Mother of the Redeemer, in Saint-Aignan-sur-Roe, France, were being attacked by the local bishop Thierry Scherrer of Laval.
The sisters run four old-peoples homes. They have the Novus Ordo in Latin and in 2012 adopted traditional habits. The bishop thought they were too traditional.
Apparently now so does the Congregation for Religious under Braz Card de Aviz, who destroyed the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate. - Source
What if there is more to this story than what is made public?  What if there is more to the Franciscans of the Immaculate story than what was made public.

What if there is more to the stories we circulate online?  What if there are false reports?  Just today the USCCB was asked by the Congregation of Bishops to delay discussions on a code of conduct for bishops, and many Catholics online are upset about that.  But maybe a code of conduct is the responsibility of the Vatican and the Congregation of Bishops is working on it?  The Holy Father already scheduled a special meeting on the issue for February 2019.

What if there is more to the story than we know at this time?

  1. Terry, you know I respect you. But when you start quoting John Zuhlsdorf, who does nothing to hide his contempt for Pope Francis, I stop listening to you. I don't know anything about this story, but I guarantee you that it is not what Zuhlsdorf is telling you.

    1. I thought it obvious that I was mocking the story. The challenge comes at the end - 'what if there is more to the story than what these people report and interpret according to their bias. I did the link to Z because folks on FB picked up his post and shared it - which tells me they really do think the mean ol' Pope is out to get Trads. Janet Smith is one who is falling in line with Church Militant and reposted the Fr. Z article.

Not to worry though - I'm not agreeing with them on this story.

Meh ... I consider the source at hand and unless it affects me directly and/or my archdiocese, I just move on because I know that eventually the real truth is revealed as does in most cases where folks tend to distort reality.

      Here's an example:

Schneider denies fake news over his house arrest

One can only wonder how many were huffing and puffing over this doozy until the truth came out.

    3. Yaya! So worried about you with all that is befalling California - thanks for commenting! Yes - I saw the bishop's correction on the fake news about his being silenced - but the fake news keeps popping up. But it's why I'm doing this from time to time - to show how people express their bias on the stories they chose to run and their commentary.

If I had time I would write more on how it really is clericalism and contempt of the Holy Father at work with these extreme critics. CM is airing a silence no more rally against the bishops and I dare say it's part of the same scheme to take down the Church. It's beyond my competence to write on it, and I'm also busy taking care of a sick friend.

At a time when the whole world appears to be collapsing and on the precipice of war, Catholics protesting at the bishop's conference and resistance to the pope strikes me as surreal and diabolic.

      Hi Terry

I commented on your post about the California fires but it said I needed approval before it was allowed to show up. Anyway, the fires are too upsetting and so much has been lost as a result ... that's an understatement to be sure. Malibu and the surrounding areas are areas of rugged beauty and dry bush plus ocean. I used to make retreats up at Serra Retreat House run by the Franciscans years ago. The land was donated to them by an Italian family that used to run a wonderful tile factory back in the early 1920s. Their work was on full display there on the property. Ironically, the factory was burned down by one of the many fires that plague the area according the the Friars. I hope they are safe.

The Paradise fire has me very sad as well because it truly was a beautiful quaint town over 150 years old and now lost forever to the raging flames that consumed it. I pray for those who were killed by those flames while they tried to flee the danger. They were burned in their cars overcome by the smoke and flames as is being reported. I read too that their only hospital is gone but that some medical staff and nurses and townsfolk were still trapped there and were trying to help by running an impromptu urgent care in order to help those who could not flee. I hope and pray they are safe now.

I will soon shut off all protests against our Holy Father and the Church as it does me no good to read about so much negativity. I will instead focus on those in need all over the world who cannot sit behind the luxury of a computer wringing their hands as to what CM is up to in their latest protest-fest.
That's just my opinion ... the experts who are in constant protest mode can deal with it.

I will pray and I will continue to hope and above all trust that our Risen Lord knows full well where the hearts of people lie. He knows who is sincere and who is deceitful better than anyone who claims otherwise. That's all I need to know.

  2. Cannot understand the opposition to traditional communities. There is acceptance of so many different rites. Why not them?

    1. I think it is because they tend to reject VII and the NO, as a bad Council and a bad Mass. That's verging toward SSPX and schism. I read a comment on this story and one person pointed out that even Cardinal Burke can't really be trusted because he accepts VII and believes the NO is legitimate. So 'they' may like his devotion to the EF but they still consider him to be tainted by modernism. The Rad-Trads are essentially the ones who are opposed to the Ordinary Form and Vatican II - they are the ones who want to do all the suppressing.

  3. The obvious reply to this 'there might be more than we know' complaint is that the people who make these rulings don't think that they have to give any reasons for what they do. Just look at Bishop Holley. Dismissed but not given a reason. Or the three priests who worked for the CDF. Dismissed but no reason given. So if you think there is more than we know, ask yourself why the dismissers are not giving reasons.
As to these nuns being on some outer fringe of extremism that is just ridiculous. The Mass they attend is the Novus Ordo!
The other thing is that the Vatican investigated the sisters in the USA and gave them a clean sheet. Nothing to see here. Move on. So it does seem a bit strange does it not that these nuns who are minding their own business are dealt ion this way but sisters in the USA who are publicly supporting abortion get a clean sheet.
But there are people on the extreme fringe of Catholicism who think that anything Fr Zuhlsdorf says cannot be treated as being accurate.

    1. I have no way of knowing and no intention of losing my soul over it. It is out of my control and my power. What I find absolutely amazing is that the right-wing Catholic fringe has apparently adopted American political policy to such an extent that they will stage rallies condemning the USCCB as if the Church is some sort of republican convention. When in fact the bishops are both appointed by and subject to the Pope. The congregation of bishops asked for a delay, and Catholics who during the papacy of JPII were most definitely pro-papacy are telling bishops to ignore the request. They condemn ordinary Catholics like myself who persevere with patient endurance, awaiting what reforms will come, in God's time, as papalotrous and unltramontane. Fr. Z seems to be taking refuge in the rad-trad camp out of some sort of survival instinct. He was trained and ordained under JPII, he needs to get a grip before he is suppressed.

    2. I too find the lack of transparency troubling. All this "He said-she said" going on when those that make these decisions seem to just sit back and allow the confusion and scandal to reign. Having said that, often these are private matters to do with individual moral failing that ought not be brought to public attention.
