I read the article a few hours ago and now the wheels are spinning in my head wondering about Pope Benedict. It does say his subordinates failed to carry out the restrictions on McCarrick that were ordered by Benedict. But why did he remain silent? Was there no one he could trust to make the accusations against McCarrick public? Why was the O'Brien story made public and not McCarrick's?
So many questions ... I will wait to see what Papa Francis has to say with regards to all of this. Until then, I will give him the benefit of doubt but I already can see the knives coming for him.
"Keep calm and carry on." I am thinking like you Yaya. I read a comment on Fr Morris's tweeter site the calls into question this man's credibility. The comment accuses him of covering up for the former Archbishop of Minneapolis by actions he supposedly took to hide information from becoming public. I am going now to pray my rosary. The Joyful are designated for Saturday, but I will meditate on the Sorrowful tonight.
Yaya, as usual, you have very good advice to "keep it all in prayer." Mr. Hamilton, I am hoping with all my heart that what you saw is correct, that the person making these accusations is not worthy of belief.

There seem to be a certain group of malicious individuals who are: 1) looking to lure Catholics from the Faith and to bring their scalps to various Protestant denominations - or worse, to no religion at all; and 2) looking to discredit and damage the Church and its faithful at all costs.
I would not be surprised if this latest allegation is both. I hope so, because if it is true, this would be the worst news we could receive right now. If it is false, it means Satan is desperate and is striking out blindly and viciously against all we hold dear.
In the meantime, please keep the Faith. And as Yaya and Mr. H wisely advise, *pray hard*. - Susan, OFS
I was directed to the document from a tweet by Fr Jonathan Morris who is pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in the Bronx, NY. I just finished reading it. Naturally, as with everything associated with this scandal, it was extremely upsetting to me. The questions which arise in my mind are related to the former Nunico's credibility. I am sure there is more then one cabal inside the Vatican. Just where does this man fit? Attacking Pope Francis has advantages for them I am sure. Just when I think I can put this to the back of my mind a new accusation surfaces and bang it preoccupies me again. For now, I am withholding all judgement. As with our great country the chips will fall where they may. I can do nothing but pray that Our Lord will make sure truth prevails in our Church and in our Country.

There is a lot of background to Archbishop Viganò, including the fact that he personally quashed an investigation into sexual abuse in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis in 2014. Southernchild I'm with you on this one. So far it looks like the Vigano accusations may be only that. This is surely bizarre. I was immediately disheartened but prayer and sleep helped me keep perspective. I stand with the Church and the Pope - I can only admit that I do not know any more than anyone else on these matters. There are links out there that mentions Steve Bannon and his crowd have a hand in all this. For me that discredits the Cardinal’s “letter” and points a finger at political motivations more then moral outrage.i was off line for two days away at my cabin retreat. No signal there and reflected on what I had read. The Cardinal directly implicates Pope Benedict and former Secretary of States Sardono and Beritoni. His accusation against Pope Francis is also suspect. He says US Bishops cannot be ideological; not supporting either right or left and left he defines as homosexual. So, to me he is reaching to discredit Pope Francis to further his agenda. I think this will become clearer in the days ahead.
