I went to the cemetery today, first to put flowers on dad's grave, second to put flowers on a Civil War military chaplain's grave. Yes, I know, neither of them died during their service so technically it's wrong. I'm not in my mom's hometown where nobody will have put flowers on her uncle's grave; the town lost two men during WWI and the VFW post is named after them. When I go later this summer, I'll put flowers on his grave. My aunt had fits last year because they missed his grave so he didn't have a flag.
