Things I don't get...

First

Cardinal Dolan bending over backwards to explain that Governor Cuomo is not a 'bad Catholic'.
NEW YORK, May 16, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – After New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan appeared to suggest during a radio interview this week that he may not view pro-abortion Governor Andrew Cuomo as a Catholic “in good standing,” the archdiocese has issued a statement saying that this is not the case, and that Dolan's remark was misunderstood.
“Cardinal Dolan would not, and did not, suggest the governor might not be a Catholic in good standing going forward,” archdiocesan spokesman Joseph Zwilling said in a statement originally sent to the New York Times, and forwarded to LifeSiteNews. - Read the rest here.

Cardinal Dolan is a Roman Catholic Archbishop, acting in the name of the Church, he is responsible for faith and morals and ecclesiastical discipline.  I'm not criticizing the Cardinal - but I don't get it.

Second

2) Catholics condemning the tactics of an anti-abortion activist, Lila Rose and the organization she heads, Live Action.  Rose is under fire for 'lying' because Live Action tactics include undercover sting operations at abortion clinics, and her critics are saying the 'undercover work is deceptive to the degree that it cannot be justified.'

What strikes me as strange is that people have become so worked up over this.  Lila Rose is Catholic, but Live Action is not a Catholic organization.  It is a private, non-profit and Lila Rose is a lay person - she does not represent the Catholic Church.  It's her conscience - but at least she and her organization is working vigorously to expose the atrocities and illegal activities of abortionists and to bring an end to abortion.

Here's the deal - Catholic politicians get away with supporting abortion and expanding access to it, while many Catholic leaders look the other way when they approach the Communion rail, but a Catholic laywoman, a private citizen, acting upon her own initiative to do everything in her power to end the abortion holocaust, is pilloried as a public sinner.

I'm not trying to vilify or justify anyone here - I just don't get it.  Sorry.

  1. Amen! I agree on both accounts. it is the second I REALLY don't understand. Pope Pius XII lied to hide Jews, he even had fake baptismal records made for them, and it is seen as virtuous. Police officers go undercover all the time to apprehend criminals, and it's seen as good. But when someone goes undercover to expose the evil of abortion...well, thats wicked and evil? I think not.

  2. I don't "get it" either (about Lila Rose.) I just consider who her attackers are, shrug, and move on. I also try to remember that in the big scheme of events and people, these are a bunch of low level nobodies who really have very little influence and are not worth getting my shorts in a knot over.

Cardinal Dolan? I think he sees himself as some sort of reincarnation of Cardinal Spellman. He isn't. Not even close. End of story.

  3. I so wish St John Fisher were around to preach today. I read him ....we need him...even if just to have someone read his sermons out-loud somewhere.
I have to remind myself everyday that we are in a time of world-wide True Diabolic Influence - esp for when the obsequious manner of "Catholics 'in charge'" becomes evident.
abortion is the greatest evil of our time. of any time....for both mother and child. we are all So Blessed here, in this safe blog (thanks Terry) to share this honest, if so bitterly painful, awareness.

  4. Terry, the answer is pretty obvious.

Lila Rose doesn't run an archdiocese or make decisions on which Catholics are allowed to speak at archdiocesan events and functions.

  5. I really like Cardinal Dolan, but I don't understand it, either.

In an interview w/Raymond Arroyo, Lila Rose compared herself to Upton Sinclair & the muckrakers, in the best tradition of investigative journalism. May God reward her efforts.

  7. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/15/nyregion/dolan-presses-cuomo-over-abortion.html?_r=0 I am not defending Cardinal Dolan here but the source is the NYT. As far as Lila Rose...I think she is in the right here since not everyone (Planned parenthood) has a RIGHT to the truth during these exposes.

  8. As we used to say in Uncle Sam's canoe club, "You can't make sense out of nonsense".

  9. Lila wants to show how good PP is at protecting young women; unfortunately, she is so unlucky and has these very bad experiences. Not her faut, so she reports them to PP so that they can correct this situation which is not caused by PP but just by bad employees.
So what is the problem ?

  10. Maybe there's a prescient connection here. Maybe we need an army of Lila Rose-types to launch similar inquiries to Cuomo Cardinals like Dolan, no matter how deplorable and despicable the findings.

    Maybe..
