Apostasy, the loss of the faith, is spreading throughout the world and into the highest levels within the Church. —POPE PAUL VI, Address on the Sixtieth Anniversary of the Fatima Apparitions, October 13, 1977
When it seems as though apostasy is occuring in the Church, I sometimes wonder whether what is actually happening in some cases is that those who held "the Faith" and now do not actually never truly held the authentic Faith to begin with. In the opposite direction, but along similar lines, in times throughout the Church's history when She appeared to be flourishing as judged by the number of those in "the Faith" and the support She had from the surrounding culture, I wonder whether what was actually happening in some cases was adherence without interiorizing the Faith.
"I am worried by the Blessed Virgin's messages to Lucy of Fatima. This persistence of Mary about the dangers which menace the Church is a divine warning against the suicide of altering the Faith in her liturgy..." ...Puis XII Devant L'Histoire
