That's okay. It's stressful being the "Messiah" and the "Messiah-ette"...they need their "down time" doncha know??! More time to think up more crazy and evil things to impose upon the rest of the population. Ooops, did I really say that (I thought I was just thinking it:<)!!)
I love it how when people snark on the President taking a well-deserved weekend or vacation time, yet the same people have no problem spending their weekends at the lake or skiing, or taking 2,3 4 weeks of vacation time..
These same people also expect priests to work 7 days a week 14 hours a day...
Do they really expect these people NOT to take a weekend or vacation?? And especially in the Obama's case--they would have to plan family vacations around the daughters' school schedules..just like the rest of us..
For the record: I have NO problem with people taking vacations...not at all. But for the record...the Obamas are not "vacation-deprived"; let's just say that it is the perception of some that they are just too "foot-loose" and where the hell was HE during this horrid oil gusher in the Gulf (for several weeks?) not to mention the $$$ that goes for all that is involved in their "vacations"? Most people who have to work six if not seven days a week with MAYBE a week or two of vacation (not to mention the personal days and sick days that might come with having children or being sick yourself) don't have the leisure of just "kicking back" and going to Chicago for the weekend (on a plane, with security, expensive restaurants and night life)... I'm just sayin'; If you want people to respect you and try to live through these trying times, you, as the leader of nation, better do it yourself. That's it. And, by the way (not for pity here) we don't take vacations away from the community; we're struggling financially just like every one else. That's a part of our commitment. And it's okay.
Oh--and the Bushs, SR and JR didn't take vacation? My aunt lived in Kennebunkport from 1977 until her death in 2009, and I saw on my visits, as well as heard from her, the transformation and disruption of the town due to the Bushs frequent visits to their "cottage." Or the case of Bush JR, his ranch in TX as well. Give me a freakin break.
Maybe the pope shouldn't be going to Castel Gandolfo for the summer then. And he don't even have kids to plan his vacation around.
If you'll excuse me, Aceman. Please calm down. It's not vacations, per se. It's the frequency of the "chill times" and the "attitude" the POTUS and His Mrs. give about how the rest of us should live, how Mr. P acts or doesn't act in times of "crisis" and the general state of affairs in the White House. George Bush is no saint; neither is Laura (esp. after her comments about abortion and "same sex" marriage, but I digress). Nobody is begrudging them a vacation. But if he would just do his job when he's "on" and Michelle would just get "with it", maybe folks wouldn't be so nasty about this... capice?:<)! (I'm just being sarcastic here...hope you don't take offence).
"Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her."
I was ready to add that about the Holy Father's vacation in the midst of the sex abuse scandal, Legion of Christ, SSPX talks, persecution of Christians worldwide, shifting post-industrial spiritual paradigm... but Ace beat me. Thanks buddy.
Thom--you forgot the millions of Anglicans that are getting ready to (almost, not quite, just a little more time, one more question please) enter the Church through the Holy Father's generous Apostolic Constitution: ANGLICANORUM COETIBUS. Who stayed behind in Rome to take care of that?

ReplyDeleteAt least he's not hiding out at the ranch while the flood waters rise.

I begrudge those evil people any vacation time. They deserve none!
ReplyDeleteTerry - the picture is priceless and I thank you!!
