A design idea easy to replicate..
In the background of this lovely vignette is a folding screen made of old doors. Painted simply, or embelished, they could work nicely for a place apart in a large room or in a loft space. I found the photo on Tea At Trianon, from Elena's shopping spree at Chartreuse and Company, in the enchanted countryside of Frederick County, Maryland.

ReplyDeleteWhat would you think of using this idea with the addition of various hook and knobs screwed on to it as an alternative to a typical coat tree arrangement? I have been struggling with figuring out how to make space for all of the winter items that five kids need in the winter and having a decent place to allow it all to hang and dry out. We could throw these same hangers all over the foyer/"mudroom" wall but I am not thrilled by the thought of making holes all over the wall (plus they would have to be in studs to be at all sturdy enough.) Maybe two doors could be placed side by side, hinge side out, in a mock french door arrangement so the clothes wouldn't be on top of each other. It gives me more ideas anyway. Thanks! P.S. From seeing your artistic talents I know your opinions would be helpful and in good taste.

Beautiful, Terry. I once made a folding screen made of old windows with the small panes of glass, and painted in reverse in each one. Alas, it got destroyed on a cross country move. Your design looks much more stable.
ReplyDeleteDave - I wish I did this - but it is from a designer in Maryland at Chartreuse and Company. I like your idea as well. I've also seen glass doors done as a screen - Bill Blass had something like that I think.
