Today is the feast day of Blessed Alberto Marvelli. The reason I prefer lay saints is because they demonstrate that we can attain sanctity in and through ordinary life... And they didn't do it by endlessly trying to figure out what God wanted them to do.
The "endlessly trying to figure out what God wants them to do" drives me nuts. I have some friends who are like that--a couples who dated for eight or nine years before getting married (not because they didn't have jobs or whatever, just because they "weren't sure"), and one is sure she is called to religious life but seems to be enthusing over a different order every week. It's not that bad at the moment, this lack of surety, as she does have a lot of school debt to pay off, so there's time to decide, but...it seems weird to me.
ReplyDeleteAs one of my mentors once advised me, do your duty, say your prayers, and stay away from anyone likely to lead you into sin. Manage that, and you'll be fine.
