Mea Maxima Culpa: An Upstart Blogger Eats Crow

Joanne K. McPortland even captured Fr. Z's admiration...

Love this title - love this title - love this title –  Egregious Twaddle

That's just beautiful.

I think we are all coming together after this... we're all Catholics - we're on the same side - we're a big Church people!

Remember bloggers, people make mistakes.

(Adrienne, I'm not addressing you, so don't start on me.)

I'm violating my own conviction that I ought not comment here anymore (thanks in large part to the aforementioned), but I think that the part I quoted is very, very important.

  3. Terry: I think that this bears repetition (comment posted elsewhere):

McPortland has repented and paid fealty to the blog monarchy, as required, in order that she might preserve her chair in the blog kingdom of heaven. Patheos bows to Martin on bended knee.

  4. Maria, what if she just realized she had judged a man's motives rashly, and attributed to him an evil he didn't commit?

Whatever else she, or you, or I, or anyone may disagree with about Fr. Martin, it seems that in this case the blogger was wrong to jump to judgment.

Now we can be snug in the conclusion that it's a "big tent" Church and that people who actually have very little overlap with Christianity, much less Catholicism can pretend to the name so they can continue to draw a check for misrepresenting themselves as "Catholic".

    2. I've been wondering about the "Big Tent" Church myself. It certainly has the appearances of such.

James Martin's trite cultural references and statements often reek of scandal and heresy.

Of course he supports the LCWR nuns, they're fellow Communards.

  8. But didn't the Holy Father say the Church would be strengthened although diminished in numbers? People who actually are Catholic will remain, the others will continue whatever charades they perform under another circus tent.
