Fine Young Cannibals.
As part of my series Greatest Hits, I posted one of my favorite songs by the group Fine Young Cannibals. An anonymous commenter left a message, "You wouldn't be posting this if you knew what was going on." So I immediately thought - "there is a vast conspiracy online against me, and this anonymous commenter is warning me!" I know! Nuts, huh? It actually made no sense to me either - but I had to wonder what the commenter meant - until this morning...
Cannibals are in the news. It's freaky, scary, really. This past week there have been breaking news stories of men cannibalizing other men. The first big story which broke this past weekend, covered the guy allegedly whacked out on bath-salts in South Beach, chewing the face off another guy, then just yesterday, the Baltimore student story broke, and now the Jeffrey Dhamer wannabe guy on the loose in Canada is all over the news. It's creepy.
Evidence of Satan in the modern world. Definitely.

ReplyDeleteThat is exactly what I would have imagined, we're so, so important, after all.
Fr Z's here in the UK, so no-one's even bothered about you Americans at the moment so there!!!! Do or say what you like, nobody's gonna post on it.
Seriously tho, these news items distressed me to the point I have been avoiding reading them. The poor victims, some Mother's sons. Unspeakable.

DeleteI'm laughing so hard right now!
Well you'd best go & order one of those police radio thingys..or not :)
ReplyDeleteI probably should. So, are you stalking Fr. Z now that he's over there?
Deleteon no ney never!

ReplyDeleteWalker Percy, "Lost in the Cosmos: The Last Self-Help Book"
these horrific events are all very creepy and reek of Evil, as do many other obsessions we are witnessing in a large scale. Ditto Shadowland, so many are touched by the evil ebb that flows out from the violence.
ReplyDeleteI know I mentioned this before a few years ago,I will recall the experience again. My daughter & I were at a popular bookstore looking for Christmas gift books and waiting w/a few other customers to ask questions at their information desk. Two young college age girls asked a question after a few minutes of giggling, and a couple of hesitated starts and a few quick side glances to each other.
We, along with the other customers, were now privately curious to why the odd behavior over a book question. The two wanted to purchase a book on how to "skin" humans because their male "friend was into that sorta stuff." Wow! A nice Christmas gift .... anyway, with the question finally out, our attention was now on how the young male staffer was going to respond. Shockingly, he had some ideas and the three of them walked off to a book shelf somewhere in the store leaving the waiting customers looking at each other in twilight zone of disbelief.
But should we have been?

Wasn't this suppose to happen during the supermoon?
ReplyDeleteTerry, I thought something similar when that first story came out. My first thought was the guy was demonically possessed. I also thought it weird that at the same time of that story one popular blogger at patheos published a post in which he talks about lovers consuming each other, and in which he reduces beauty to an immanent infinitely insatiable appetite of "more, more more!", of which nibbling on each others' body parts is an expression.
ReplyDeleteIf theology of the body means that the "body reveals God"? Well, then, welcome to the new pagan age of the enlightened cannibal.
