What women should wear to church.
Or, how I deal with trauma.
So anyway.
Should a woman go to church wearing a Mantilla and shawl over a tight mini dress with stiletto high heels? Does it make sense? No - I don't think it does.
I'm against it.
Shouldn't the Church do more for fat people? It's one crisis after another these days. Many Catholics are morbidly obese and the Church does nothing for them. Nada. Parishes keep doing donuts and coffees after Mass, Pancake Breakfasts, pot lucks - and you know how pot gives you the munchies. Why don't the bishops do anything about fatties? Is there a special patron saint, a shrine, a pilgrimage destination with a fat farm?
No wonder people don't go to church.
St.s Zach and Ryan
BTW - The Wild won their first round in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
So why would Archbishop Nienstedt snub them and host the girls hockey team from a local high school at a private Mass and dinner at his residence? Girls should not be allowed to play men's sports. It leads to gender confusion. (JK)
I'm against it.
Hey! Abercrombie and Fitch is changing their image. Really!
Perhaps a bit off topic - I know! What topic?
I was talking to a friend about how much money can be made writing a blog or hosting a website - without even offering anything for sale - not even good writing. He was surprised that just by having a donation app and a special needs app you can send your kids to college, buy a house, get a car, go to Europe, buy fancy Mantillas and high heels, buy mini dresses for your husband, get tickets for hockey games - and almost unbelievably - there are actually people out there who will donate. (I told him about Fr. Z how he used to ask for donations to as protest against NCR. He didn't get that either.) But if a homeless person on the street asks them for a couple of dollars they won't give them any money. They might buy them a sandwich, but they don't want to give them any cash because they might use it for junk food and gain weight. (Just kidding - they don't want them to use it for drink or drugs. Our homeless people must be respectable... if they want money for that crap - let them get a GoFundMe page.)
The Church has to do more for fat people.
And another thing...
What if I owned a limo company and Bruce Jenner wanted to rent a limo to go to have his reassignment surgery and I refused because I would in effect be providing the transportation to his surgical appointment? Worse, what if he was wearing a mini skirt with high heels and as he was getting into the limo I could see ...
I'm afraid to leave the house again.
Should I apply at Patheos?
You could always sell blessed Holy Cards - what?
ReplyDeleteFunny you should mention that. Do you know that someone in the UK has made holy cards of one of my images of Matt Talbot and made them into relic cards and sells them online? I never care if someone uses my images but to sell them like that is offensive. I would never do that.
DeleteAnyway - does someone sell blessed holy cards online?
That *is* offensive. Are you going to consider copyrighting your material? I think you should. You're so talented. I need some of your artwork again.
DeleteThe hilarious Abercrombie photo could be a holy card: St. Thomas Aquinas at soccer.
DeleteI've always thought of obesity as a fine sign of the effects of original sin, since there would be no obese people if Adam and Eve hadn't rebelled.
I once saw a young muslim woman fully covered (except her face) wearing stripper stilettos. Her dress was also, ahem, snug. That wasn't going to end well. Just goes to show that Simcha Fisher in pants and a tank top can be less enticing than an eighteen year old North African girl in full swaddle.
But we knew that already.
oh Terry !!! yes you must copyright your images. seriously. please. At least when I saw your painting of Matt Talbot in the Catholic magazine thing, it gave credit to you, and I think mentioned where its home is.
Deletere: Patron Saint...of over-weight....Thomas Aquinas, of course. I know many very smart, talented people who become/are overweight as they do their work/thinking/reading quietly, in place, and then suffer the consequences of our society that really only acclaims those who are extroverted, good looking, running around all the time, athletic, et al.
back to art: I used to get So Burned when I would see artists make an off-set litho of their work, number them as if they were real prints, pulled 'for real', and then Number Them as: 1/1000, 2/2000, and so on: and then price/sell them as such. lots of $. essentially, posters. (I Know: a way for an artist to make money, I am sorry.) also some would be specially 'signed' or some other thing, as a "limited edition".....boy.....I quit a spot framing (loved it, mitering frames, cutting glass and matts and so on...) as I am much, much too idealistic to put up with even minor 'art fraud'. To see people taken in....(and I know, I know...if it makes them happy and so on, and then keeps some frame-shop-owner in business....)
the thing is this: Our Good, Good Lord gave All of us, Each of us, great gifts, great talents and we are not to... "let other people get our kicks for us"....we are each great artists and the solace of making is so important: whether cooking, writing a letter, planting a flower, a garden, listening with love, praying, admiring Creation, I could go on & on & on,
I have an old tin box of my grandmothers with Holy Cards: did you know that priests, newly ordained, would give them out with their date of ordination, a favorite quote from a Saint or Scripture: and my favorite: whenever a priest would leave a parish, similar cards with the dates of their presence at the church would be listed, and a plea for the parishioners to pray for them.
I plan to find little frames and put these in them, and thus remember to pray for these priests....
Must.Calm.Down.Now. re: off-set lithos....
Jeron - I wouldn't want to copyright my stuff. I don't mind it being used - when people write for permission to use it I appreciate that - but I don't like it used for fund raising unless it would be for a good cause or something. Otherwise I don't care - esp. if it is used to promote devotion or an apostolate.
DeleteConsolata - Some now say St. Thomas wasn't obese. Your idea for holy cards is a good one.
Scott - the Muslim woman might have been a Saudi - they do all the fashion stuff under their veils - I saw it on 60 Minutes once. What? Simcha writes for Patheos, right?
OMG, my endorphins are going WILD. Best high EVER! Just from reading your hilarious post, and the equally hilarious replies. Thank you all!! Oh man. Gonna have a great day. :)
ReplyDeleteOnly very special people can recognize the comedy here. Thanks!
DeleteOops - I probably shouldn't say comedy. Nonsense is better. ;)
DeleteThen I am on the outside looking in since I was overwhelmed instead. <3
DeleteYaya - I was just going to remove my comments and then discovered yours. So it stays up.
DeleteTerry,
DeleteYou a true gentleman indeed. ;p
I read with great interest your colorful commentary but as my mind began to race I could not keep pace and thus ...
You're a mad genius lol!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Mad eccentric works better I think.
DeleteThat first photograph. . . Glenn Close as a chic but demented Dominican? [The line of Rosary bead buttons is a dead give-way!] Actor Bill Murray has a real-life sister who is a Dominican; she does one-woman shows as Saint Catherine of Siena. . . but imagine GC in the part!! Cruella da Siena?
ReplyDeleteHaha! Isn't that a great shot?
DeleteYou could get people to contribute to a humanity-acceptance therapy fund for you so that you could overcome your feelings that you are really a standard poodle. (Whispering: Not that there is anything wrong with feeling one is a poodle--especially a standard one--but as a fundraising gimmick it could be effective.)
