Darn it!
My apologies to my Canadian friends. So. I won't celebrate
our Thanksgiving. I'll let the family know. And all my friends.
"Can't make it this year. Real Thanksgiving happened over a month ago!"
Oh Lassie, I'm so thankful we don't have to go.
I won't be at my family Thanksgiving this year. I'm going on retreat!

I forgot - you'll be at NM - say hi to Fr. Tom - he's my friend and is still Guestmaster I think.
DeleteThe Canadians celebrate around Columbus Day. Not sure if they copied us but I think they did. Living so close to the border we see them here shopping to beat the band. They are good neighbors and seem to do many things in a saner and better way.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to add that they like shopping here for selection and to avoid their VAT which is their 27% national sales tax that funds their national health care program and all the other "socialist" programs that they absolutely love. Trump told us it is a disaster, but the Canadians do not agree. I wonder if the dismantling of free trade and the new tariffs he proposes will hurt our merchants?
ReplyDeleteNot sure where you live Wallace but in my province we pay 5% federal sales tax and 7% provincial sales tax (totalling 12%)
DeleteThanks Angela I may have confused Canada with U.K. At that rate you have a bargain. We pay 8.5% in my part of NY and endless hidden tax in fees etc. we get nowhere near the benefits you get. Thanks for the clarification.
DeleteHi Wallace - I love NY! My family is on Long Island.
