Our Lady of La Salette, Reconciler of sinners,
pray without ceasing for us who have recourse to thee.
Remember, our Lady of La Salette, true Mother of sorrows, the tears which thou didst shed for me on Calvary; be mindful also of the unceasing care which thou dost exercise to screen me from the justice of God; and consider whether thou canst now abandon thy child, for whom thou hast done so much. Inspired by this consoling thought, I come to cast myself at thy feet, in spite of my infidelity and ingratitude. Reject not my prayer, O Virgin of reconciliation, convert me, obtain for me the grace to love Jesus Christ above all things and to console thee too by living a holy life, in order that one day I may be able to see thee in Heaven. Amen.

A solemn and blessed feast day.
As I have written before, for some reason I do not understand, I am drawn to this apparition of Mary. I cannot seem to find enough information that satisfies my curiosity about her. I cannot explain it.
ReplyDeleteI think it best not to examine apparitions too closely and let the Church do it. One can consider and ponder the messages - but once again - the Church discerns the meaning. The fact that the Popes have approved the devotion - even JPII - is quite sobering I think. The most important aspect is our response, to pray and be reconciled and keep praying for Our Lady's intentions.

I too am very drawn to this - the images touch me deeply. I find that when I cannot pray....cannot concentrate....art suffices, very well. Perhaps Wallace pondering the various paintings will bring you greater satisfaction, greater closeness to Our Lady. So Numinous, So Mysterious. I myself am increasing feeble in being able to follow, understand, much, if not most, of what is happening in this world, and great difficulty in pondering even the 'simple' petitions asked for in many apparitions. It is all so overwhelming.

ReplyDeleteTerry and Consolata, you are both right in your observations. There is something that catches my attention, curiosity and wonder in this version of Mary that is more intense. I do not understand why. There is her sorrow, her peasant dress with Russian overtones and Russian tiara. It just seems to have a lot of symbolic meaning. Anyway, of course I agree prayer is the best response. We need lots of it. Thank you both for your insights and suggestions. I will remember you in prayer today.
