"Are we prepared to promote conditions in which the living contact with God can be reestablished? For our lives today have become godless to the point of complete vacuity. God is no longer with us in the conscious sense of the word. He is denied, ignored, excluded from every claim to have a part in our daily life." - Alfred Delp, S.J.

For the Fifth Day of Christmas ...

S. Thomas Becket

An excellent essay on Becket and Romero here.

I was pleasantly surprised when the priest who celebrated yesterday's Mass described St. Thomas Becket as one of his personal favourite saints and a reminder to us that before we started harping on about "separation of Church and state," the Catholic Church was articulating the issue as early as the 1170s.
