Aaarrggghhh! This January 1, the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God, I attended a Mass at which the deacon gave a homily that discussed the poor much but gave scant mention to the woman one would expect to be especially celebrated, given the title of the solemnity.
LOL! This one is serious though. The FSSP are across town - I may start going there. It was the deacon who gave the homily - he serves at a far out Native American 'parish' as well. With all the controversy in this Archdiocese and in the Church I was rather taken aback by the focus of the homily. I try not to notice stuff but it seems unavoidable some Sundays.
I haven't gone to Mass yet this morning and not sure what to expect. Our priest only recently gave more than a nod to the DM devotion but he loves JPII and really likes J23. We shall see....
Father said it was Divine Mercy Sunday. And that's it. He did talk a bit about the canonizations and the succession of popes from 1958 to the present day and what each is remembered for. I did like that he mentioned Paul VI was a prophet re: HV. Can't remember what else he talked about in the homily. The Communion hymn was DM related (chorus: Jesus, I trust in You 5x)
Oy! No earth day at my little parish. Great homily on the gospel and God's gentle way of dealing with us. ("Peace be with you.) Father also gave a great little talk at the CCD celebration of the the canonizations. We'll have Divine Mercy prayers later. I love my little parish in the Shenandoah Valley: very reverent NO. Father said he would learn the TLM if there was a parishioner clamor for it, but he hasn't seen it. We do have the TLM about 45 minutes north in Front Royal.
Post Script: The best think we could do for the earth is to stop throwing babies' bodies into the landfills and filling up our streams with contraceptive hormones that are changing male fish into egg-carrying monster fish. Be a good steward of the earth. Let your dandelions grow so the bees can use them for nectar. Plant a garden. Feed the birds, especially during the winter and nesting season. And eat local and fresh! Never ever use Round Up! And if you want to hug a tree, hey go for it.
At our N.O. form Mass today we had four baptisms and a homily about being true to the four marks of the Church. No mention of D.M. but a brief mention of the two new saints and incorporation of same into the Eucharistic prayers. Happily, no mention of Earth Day or Special K. Huh?
