Feast of St. John of the Cross

"Where there is no love, put love -- and you will find love." - John of the Cross

Did you know one Christmas Eve at the end of the monastery posada, St. John danced in ecstasy as he placed the Divine Infant Jesus in the crèche?

  1. Dancing with joy and in the Spirit is a beautiful thing to witness. I can only imagine how wonderful it must have been to see St. John of the Cross dance before the Lord much like David danced before the Lord in the Old Testament. ^^

It brings back memories of when I first came back to my faith as a Catholic. I attended several SCRC conventions here in Los Angeles, CA. years ago and remember the Camaldolese Monks coming down from Northern California, yearly, to participate. There was one particular monk who, short in stature, would dance around the aisles, with his arms lifted high and his face radiant. The rest of us all lifted our hearts up to the Lord in song, praise, and worship.

The joy and the tears I remember fondly as it was such a beautiful sight to see him and to this day, I see him dancing despite the many years that have come and gone.

After the wonderful praise and worship, the Camaldolese Monks would then retire, in complete silence, before the Lord in Eucharistic Adoration.

I am glad I remembered tonight the joy of the "Dancing Monk." Perhaps by now, he is in heaven dancing in eternal joy before the throne of the One who dwells in unapproachable light and unimaginable beauty.

    Amen!
