Something is wrong with MSM reports on what the Pope says...

This is what I mean:
Pope Francis assures sceptics: You don’t have to believe in God to go to heaven ...
In comments likely to enhance his progressive reputation, Pope Francis has written a long, open letter to the founder of La Repubblica newspaper, Eugenio Scalfari, stating that non-believers would be forgiven by God if they followed their consciences. - Source

Really?

C'mon!

  1. Is the problem how the media reports what the pope says, or that he has a habit of speaking "off the cuff" in somewhat rambling and opaque fashion?

  2. I'd say it's the reports. They did the same thing to Benedict, who chose his words meticulously.

  3. You are so right, Terry. The Pope was talking about being true to our conscience, which is the natural law. Romans 2:6-7:

God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; 10 but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 11 For God does not show favoritism.

Seems to me to be pretty much what the Holy Father said. The MSM and unfortunately, too many Catholics, are trying to make this Pope into a spiritual rebel, and he is anything but.

  4. The last two Popes were crystal clear on Catholic teaching regarding conscience. I think media is loving this Pope because his words can be so easily manipulated and they can spin what he says 'amicably'.

Mary - you are right, too many Catholics are making the Pope out to be a spiritual rebel - which only adds to the confusion and instability amongst the 'new' movements.

  5. yes, and now what Archbishop Parolin has said will be ejected into the world and more chaos will ensue - every word this Pope has said will be put out there in a cut & paste manner to be assessed the way they want it to be. so controlling and manipulative. yikes. just when it seems it can't be wierder - it gets wierder.
thank God for Archbishop Nienstedt -
