Patriot's Day Massacre
Pray for today's victims. As of this writing 2 dead, 23+ wounded.
In New England it is Patriot's Day* - a civil holiday. The city hosts the annual Boston Marathon on this day. It is also Tax Day in the United States. I'm guessing this is domestic terrorism - not Al Qaeda or foreign terrorism. Hopefully, I'm wrong.
*Prior to 1775, the area that is now the eastern part of the United States mainly consisted of British colonies controlled by the United Kingdom. The American Revolutionary War, also known as the American War of Independence, was a major step in the independence of the United States. The first battles in this war were fought in the areas of Lexington and Concord, near Boston, Massachusetts, on April 19, 1775. For this reason, the third Monday in April is symbolic for the emerging independence of the new country.
It also happened on the mile dedicated to the victims of Newtown, where Newtown families were observing.
ReplyDeleteThat I didn't know - thanks Thom. The other reason I think it's domestic terrorism is that there in no 'chatter' - according to news reports - by outside interests.

DeleteIt is so strange no foreign groups have claimed responsibility - which is why I'm wondering if it is domestic? Maybe the threat was mailed in?
ReplyDeleteI don't know Terry. I don't know if Timothy McVeigh or Eric Rudolph mailed or called in threats when they committed their carnage. Just such an act of cowardice and evil. I was reading the comments of a family of runners from this area who completed the marathon yesterday. The father said how running is so not political and how the pack of runners help each other and keep each other going even in the heat of competition. And then an evil and senseless thing like this happens. I'm praying to St. Anthony to help them find the culprit or culprits.
ReplyDeleteThe lone terrorist who tried to set off a bomb in Times Square (last year or the year before?) had a pressure cooker in the back of his car. At least one pressure cooker was used in Monday's bombing.
ReplyDeleteLynne - that is interesting - he had foreign interests right - though he lived here in the US? That's scarier in a way - a fanatic/lone wolf can strike anywhere anytime without warning.
