Identical twins have been killed by Belgian doctors in a unique case under the country's euthanasia laws.Blood and water flowing from the side of Christ as a font of mercy for us, forgive them for they know not what they are doing.
The 45-year-old brothers from the Antwerp region were born deaf and sought euthanasia after finding that they would also soon go blind. They told doctors they were unable to bear the thought of not being able to see each other again.The twins, who have not been named but have been pictured on Belgian TV, had spent their entire lives together, sharing a flat and working as cobblers.
Belgium's 'Het Laatste Nieuws' newspaper reported at the weekend that doctors at Brussels University Hospital in Jette "euthanised" the two men by lethal injection last month.Under Belgian law, euthanasia is allowed if those wishing to end their lives are able to make their wishes clear and a doctor judges that they are suffering unbearable pain.
David Dufour, the doctor who presided over the euthanasia, said the twins had died together and had taken the decision in "full conscience".

Well put, Terry. So many people in these countries that have legalized euthanasia feel an obligation to die, as well. It's terribly sad.
ReplyDeleteAnd what happens when "healers" become "killers?" No one in Belgium can trust their doctors. No one in Holland can trust their doctors. They have eaten of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and believe they are gods with power over life and death. Better find out what principles guide the actions of your doctors!
ReplyDeleteA friend gave me the link to this post. Incredibly sad and disturbing. I have met a few persons who were deaf and blind. I have two friends, brothers, who have Usher's Syndrome. They have been quite deaf - not totally deaf - from birth and to some extent have tunnel vision. Fr Cyril Axelrod CSsR has the same and is not totally blind [http://cyrilaxelrod.wordpress.com/]. I often celebrate Mass with Deaf people. I have never met one who complained of 'unbearable pain'. I have a good friend, a retired journalist, who became blind in middle age. Now over 80, he is still very active, still living on his own, and I've never heard him complain of pain of any kind from his blindness. A now deceased Columban confrere of mine who also went blind in middle age developed a ministry of retreat work precisely because of that. Did no one offer any hope to these two men? May they rest in peace.
