So. This guy claims there is a difference between abuse cases in the TLM communities from the NO communities.

Unbelievable.

Perhaps I am in a bit of a testy mood today, but I am getting almighty tired of those of different Forms of the Latin Church, and those of different Rites of the worldwide Catholic Church, displaying condescending and patronizing demeanors toward those of different Rites or Forms. Here's the thing - both the TLM and the Novus Ordo forms, and the Latin and all the Eastern Rites of the Catholic Church, are *equally* sacred, holy, valid, and licit. We are *all* under obedience to the Pope, and serve Jesus and His Church. We are *all* Catholic. We are all members of one Rite or Form or another because of our family background or simply preference. To throw insults at other Catholics - and worse - other Rites and Forms of the Holy Mass and the Divine Liturgy - is unspeakably wicked and vile, especially since we all know better. The attacks we get from outsiders is bad enough, without being attacked from our own Catholic family.

To contend that, just because the perpetrators of a vile, wicked sin are priests or members of a TLM church gives them a pass, or negates their sin in any way, is despicable. *All* sin is a personal failing, and negatively affects others, and causes scandal. It doesn't matter which form of Mass the sinner attends. No excuses, and no hiding behind the fact that one attends one form of the Mass or another.

It is not for *any* lay person to declare that the Novus Ordo Mass is sacrilegious or blasphemous, or any other Form or Rite of the Catholic Church. To do so is to be guilty of sacrilege and blasphemy oneself.

It is very true that pride goes before the fall. Beware of Catholics who attack other Catholics simply because of the Mass they attend, or the parish they belong to. This is what Satan wants - to divide us. We are easier to attack when we are separated from the Shepherd and His flock. - Susan, TOF

  2. We are witnessing the attack mode in action. I believe this was the reason Pope Francis issued the restrictions on the TLM. As I have often said Until age 15 I knew only the Latin Mass. I served it often and understand it’s symbolism and sacredness. I still love it. The reason for change however goes much deeper then form alone. In the old form the Priest was beyond question the sole authority and intermediary with God. In NO the community has a bigger role & responsibility for themselves & toward the community. I have no problem having a choice in which rite to attend. I do have a problem with either side bashing the other. If we take the first Mass as the Last Supper it is clear that the TLM is a much later cultural adaptation more akin to the Jewish version of sacrifice in the Temple. There should be a place for both. Yes, sin is sin. Abuse is abuse no one group is exempt. We need a lot more kindness & respect in all walks of life. God is more pleased with that then how we conduct our liturgy to praise & thank Him.

    1. Thanks. I too grew up with the TLM and during the Council, the school sisters were thrilled with the prospect of reform, esp. of the liturgy and the hopes for the vernacular. In high school I fell away, but when I returned to the sacraments, the particular church I came back to still celebrated in Latin and English, the altar in the original place, so I noticed no rupture at all. As the '70's progressed, several novelties were introduced, but my focus was on the Word and the Eucharist and the encounter with Christ in communion - so I was just fine. It was a wonderful grace.

  3. A few thoughts:
    1. The markers of ideological possession crop up in Chris' statement: "Latin Mass... provide you with EVERYTHING you need to live a holy life."; "If you screw up, the fault lies with you not the PERFECT means..."; "...a personal failing of the priest... who has been given ALL the tools to prevent it."
    2. Ideological possession is demonstrated in the team identifiers as well. "Traditionalists," "Neo-Caths," etc.

Chris' point aside, this is an approach to thinking that louses sight of the big picture, becoming small scale contention, division, and categorization. Is that perhaps close to why you captioned this post ubelievable?
