Blog Update - In Time of Pandemic

Religious people are still locked and loaded.

I write about it on FB and neglect the blog.  Why?  Because it is easier to link to sources.  Although I wrote the following without links - so I'll publish it as is.

Trouble in the Bad-Tradlands.

It's weird how the anti-papists seem to be turning on one another. It's like a soap opera.

Church Militant charging the SSPX with sheltering pedophiles. CM in trurn threatened by SSPX defenders. Christine Niles reprimanded by Steve Skojec, while another site accuses Michael Voris of catering to gay-Milo. It's kind of nuts. Their followers' comments are even worse - actually hateful - esp. concerning Voris and his reputation.  Ann Barnhardt is still in the fray as well.

In his recent interview, Vigano said something about how the masks are falling off during the pandemic, that would be the only point I could agree with him on. The infighting among these groups appears to be getting worse. Wasn't it Michael Matt of The Remnant and Fr. Z who called for 'uniting the clans' a few months ago?

They are all so focused upon corruption and lust, digging up dirt on churchmen, while mean-spiritedly exposing the faults of anyone who opposes them. In doing so, they have set themselves up as prosecutor and judge.

That's all.

  1. And that, my dear Terry, is exactly why I quit reading the "professional Catholics" years ago. About the only thing I ever watch is Michael Matt because he is soothing and full of common sense. We have a few of those "pro Catholics" living around here and several months ago I stumbled upon some tweets they were all exchanging (the locals, Steve, and a few others) and honestly - I was shocked at how nasty they were. The really like to unload on Ann B and call her "ugly" and such. Not nice...

  2. I'm happy not to read any of that.

  3. So, where is this all leading us? I read about St Mary's Kansas, the SSPX little colony, and how the locals were pushed out and vile things went on in secret. I saw the pictures of nuns in the old habit, priests high on a pedestal, woman wearing chapel veils. I lived this life and recall it fondly. Now, however they look like actors in some film about growing up Catholic in the 60's. They are being called a cult by some. I am all for permitting the Latin Mass for those who want it. It is beautiful. People forget, or do not know, that it was a passive service almost unintelligible to the masses. Many people spent the time day dreaming or checking out the neighbors. Never did I hear about individual responsibility or community service. Anyway, where do we go from here. I have no idea!

    1. At some point I bought a couple of chapel veils at a thrift store, so I'd be ready, in the event I felt the need to veil. The last thing I packed when I went to the Holy Land was the chapel veils. They were in my purse at the outset and at some point I ended up wearing one. I nearly always veil when I go to church but no idea what will happen when we finally go back.

  5. And, as all this goes on, faithful parish priests across the US are working tirelessly to keep their parishioners connected to Jesus, their parishes, and the Faith. My own good pastor, only 35 years old and taking care of 2 parishes, brings us Mass several times weekly via FB, in English and Spanish, as well as Adoration, DM Chaplet, Rosary, Newman Center activities including a virtual pilgrimage on Holy Thursday night to 6 local parishes in 60 minutes, in addition as offering Confession while observing quarantine and social distancing rules. He even broadcasts his weekly Monopoly game with our elderly parochial vicar, which is a lot more fun than it sounds! He and our vicar bring spiritual encouragement and hope, as well as our Faith to our parishioners, and we consider ourselves *very* lucky. Our pastor and our vicar are working too hard serving God to engage in the back-biting and pessimistic ugliness that goes on higher up. *This* is our Church - the faithful and their loyal and hard-working parish priests. Not the politics and manipulation that often preoccupies those at the top. God bless and protect all of us, and give us good health! Very warmest Franciscan blessings to all here! Maybe only a few more weeks until we can worship at our parishes again!

    2. Nan, it's actually pretty entertaining! Our vicar, Fr. Frank, for some reason, continually lands in Jail. Our pastor, Fr. Chris, always says something like, "Don't you think it's time to reform your life, or are you just visiting your friends in the slammer?" And Joey, Fr. Chris's beautiful Himalayan cat, stares at him disapprovingly. And so it goes. In between the moves, our priests remind us of upcoming feast days, and the examples of saints who found themselves in a pickle, and generally encouraging comments. It's on FB, so you can tell how many are watching - sometimes as many at 75! Sorry to go on, but I am very fond of our parish priests, who are far too busy to get involved in Church politics - they are busy keeping us faithful! Peace and good health to you, dear Nan!

    3. Susan, I'm so glad you have good and faithful priests helping you remain faithful in these trying times.

I can call Father and chat or go to the rectory for a socially distant porch confession but otherwise I'm left with other priests; he faithfully says the liturgy daily with one of the cantors but for our viewing pleasure, it must be the Bishop in another state or a priest in another state.

      Many blessings to you, Susan!

  6. Reminds me of Acts 5:38: “Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail.”

These people are destroying each other. I have watched with real amusement the war that has developed between Taylor Marshall and Tim Gordon, the two who use to make some of the worst anti-Francis videos together. Their videos were full of lies and slander. And now they hate each other.

Our Lord told us we would know His disciples by their love for one another. Sure seems these people are not disciples of Jesus Christ.

I like the veil. It is reverential. Would not mind its return. Not sure why that custom went out the door. My mother & sisters always were into hats too. I remember the hat displays every Sunday almost more then anything else. As an altar server over 10 years I was into all the special things that had to be done. Lighting the high alter candles, bells & whistles galore. It was fun & special. I get the attraction & why some people want to turn back the clock. Still, the "new mass" offers so much more personal engagement. Just not the pageantry. As for the return, I suspect we will all be wearing face masks & social distancing. Nan Your Holy Land trip sounds marvelous. And Susan your parish a gem.! We need more uplifting stories like

    1. I very much agree with you, Mr. H (and my late father was also a server during the 40s and 50s - even as a little boy, he understood his Latin and knew all his duties, and he thought of it as one of the highest honors of his life - thank you for your service to the Church!) I fully understand and respect those who love the TLM - and I respect the TLM as well. The music is stunning. And I for one would not mind wearing hats or veils. But the Novus Ordo Mass is also very dear to my heart, and I could never leave it. As for my parish - we've had our ups and downs, good pastors and not so good. Our current pastor is indeed a gem, as is our vicar. I have a theory, that like any business, there is a trickle-down affect from whomever is running a parish. If that person is moral, decent, joyous, and faithful, everyone under him will be as well. We are blessed indeed. I hope our good Fr. Chris never wants to leave us. Peace and good health to you, dear Mr. H, and all here! Maybe it won't be too much longer now!

    2. Wallace, my holy land trip was amazing!

I don't view the 'new mass' as having more personal engagement; you say more words but that's meaningless. I used to belong to what some disparage as a "novo ordus" parish but was called home after my trip; I'm Byzantine but wasn't raised in that church, dad was raised in a small town with a Roman church so that's what they went to.
