Some priests really do follow Ann Barnhardt ...

She should maybe teach Canon Law, she's so brilliant.

Even those who know Latin.

Barnhardt writes for The Remnant, 1P5, and has a Catholic following bigger than any fake-mystic-locutionist alive.  Or so it seems.  She claims her essays are translated into Polish and German as well.  Guess what - Fr. Z is a friend and likely secret-follower.
I have notes from people asking about something that my friend Ann Barnhardt wrote about the Latin text of the address Benedict XVI gave when he announced that he was going to abdicate. Ann contended that the Latin, as written and pronounced, indicated that Benedict did not truly resign. - Z
What is especially curious about subjunctive musings such as these is that Fr. Z gets himself tangled in Barnhardt's fish-nets.  For one, he agrees with her that "priests not knowing Latin" is a problem:
Yes, friends, this is a problem. I think that Latin Rite priests – in their copious free time – would do well to work on Latin, the language of their Rite. - Z
Not that there is anything wrong with that particular agreement.  However, his having read Barnhardt's update, does he agree with her  that 'Bergolio' is an 'Antipope'?  How much does he buy into her insane rants about the Church and the bishops?  Some days there does seem to be at least a semblance of agreement.  Barnhardt is a fringe conspiracy-monger, is that how the slavish-Latinist wants to be regarded?  Why wouldn't he comment on her crazed rants against the pope and bishops, calling them Sodomites?  Yet he will correct a grammatical error with great fervor, and praise her for correcting it.  Strange allies.

One needs to beware false mystics and locutionists as much as those who sow division and hatred in and through their conspiracy theories and speculations against the Pope and Magisterium.

But the companion of fools will suffer harm. - Proverbs

  1. "The request for resignation is in any case licit." --Pope Saint Burke

If the election of Pope Francis is invalid, and the situation reverts to the status quo, then calling for his resignation would be...what?

But as Pope he should resign! But as Pope he's invalidly elected! But Lord please kill him!

As I never tire of saying, absolutists are the worst relativists. And these ones love toying with the idea of Benedict still being pope (it's not just the Barnhardts), but they toy with it like the leftist toys with ideas about sexual sins not being sins. In such matter (the idea of Benedict not validly resigning), they will not come to anything conclusive, but they love to keep it in the air. In other words, they love ambiguity when it gives them the fuzzies.

    1. Meh, I trust the word of Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller over that of Pope Saint Burke any day:

A re-post from days gone by:

      Yaya5:53 PM
I wonder while Z is in Paris he has had an opportunity to read this article by Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller.

Müller, “No one has the right to indict the Pope”
The cardinal, “The attacks hurt the credibility of the Church. I am convinced that Francis is doing everything possible against abuses. The American bishops should have sent the texts to Rome earlier”

I truly wish Papa would employ the great Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller. He is a jewel.

  2. "in their copious free time"

I had to laugh at this insipid statement ... at my parish and at other parishes where I sometimes visit, knowing the priests there, they are very busy and very active running their parish. I doubt they have time to sit behind a computer taking pictures of themselves eating fancy, expensive food while drinking choice wines.

Maybe some have "copious free time" but I have yet to meet one unless he be online ...

  3. Just in case anyone has not read Barnhardt, this is the kind of heretical garbage that the Zuhlsdorf’s friend writes:

“Question 8: Why is Pope Francis saying and doing things that are in direct opposition to Jesus Christ and His Holy Church? I thought that was impossible?

“Pope Francis” IS NOT THE POPE. Jorge Bergoglio is an antipope, falsely elected in an invalid conclave because Pope Benedict never validly resigned the papacy. Therefore BERGOGLIO HAS ABSOLUTELY NO PARTICIPATION IN THE PETRINE OFFICE, INCLUDING THE CHARISM OF PAPAL INFALLIBILITY. As an antipope, Bergoglio is completely free to say and do things which are heretical, apostate and even satanic, because none of the supernatural protections of the papacy apply to Bergoglio, because Bergoglio is not now and never was the pope. Antipope Bergoglio hates God and His Holy Church and is hellbent on destroying it. All of his intentions toward the Church are malevolent. He is a servant of satan, carrying out a satanic agenda.

Question 9: Isn’t Pope Benedict XVI a heretic for doing what he has done, and thus no longer the Pope either?

Pope Benedict XVI is indeed a heretic and is now the worst pope in the history of The Church, BUT this makes his papacy ILLICIT, but still VALID. It is absolutely essential to understand the difference between LICAITY and VALIDITY. At this point I would refer you to an excellent essay by Fr. Brian Harrison, penned in ARSH 2000, and thus completely unprejudiced with regards to current events.”

    1. One more statement from that same article by Barnhardt, who hate all post Vatican II popes equally:

“Yes. Pope John XXIII was almost certainly a Freemason. Paul VI was a raging sodomite and pro-Communist. John Paul II was a phenomenologist and kissed the satanic tome of the musloids, the koran, and his so-called “Theology of the Body” is deeply heretical.”

    2. Which is exactly why I was amazed that Z even noted this crackpot. It tells me a lot. What is equally amazing is how 'they' condemn the Pope for associating with those they deem unworthy, as well as Fr. Martin, who they say should be telling gay people they are evil rather than accepting them for who they are and where they are at. It's amazing to me that Fr. Z doesn't practice what he preaches but pretty much endorses the crazy judgments Barnhardt publishes and expounds upon hour after hour in her podcasts.

    3. I think Zuhlsdorf does practice what he preaches, which is basically rejection of Pope Francis and the entire post conciliar Church. Zuhlsdorf believes that the salvation of the Church lies solely in the traditional Latin Mass and everything associated with it. And there are thousands and thousands, maybe millions, of people who agree with him. They look at everyone who disagrees with them as their enemy. They believe they are the only true Catholics left on earth.

Truth is, they are the only true members in their church, but it is not the Catholic Church founded by Jesus Christ.

  4. The longer I watch conservative Catholics make such visible-from-space stupid blunders in judgment like exalting this crazy quack or the grifting, useless priest who exalts her, the more convinced I am of the diabolical blindness of that subculture. It's the same with Folk Hero Burke. Even the organizers of a conference on Sex Robots can see that Steve Bannon is poison. Only Burke is dumb enough to make him a formator of souls.
