What if Luther is in purgatory?
I wonder about the wife?

ReplyDeleteThis was the first I heard of that - of course Fr. Z was raised a Lutheran - so maybe he has distant relatives? I thought it was kind of fun.
DeleteLet's not get carried away here folks ... we can make beds together, wash the dishes and/or scrub the toilets, but drink together, no thanks. ^^
ReplyDeleteI seem to recall someone speculate that Luther had a devotion to our Lady when he was an Augustinian monk and that after he left the faith, he continued to be devoted to her. They even went on to say that perhaps on his death bed, he might have asked her to intercede for him before the Lord.
Who knows, except the Lord himself and Mary, our madrecita.
I read that too. Which made me wonder if he is saved? Or still in purgatory? There was so much said about him over the centuries - that he even could have been possessed - well some of the saved may have been possessed at one time or another as well - so who knows. A fine mystical theologian could only shed more light on that I think.

DeleteYou know very well what is taught about private revelations - be it a canonized mystic or a visionary from Medjugorje. Fr. Z knows that as well.
