Regarding the link: having spent decades at the Vatican, I think it is highly unlikely that Pope Benedict would be surprised to learn that some high churchmen are same-sex attracted.
Thomas, no doubt. But, if there is a ring of people - potentially subjects of blackmail, imagine the power struggle and shenanigans that would take place in the hallways if B16's health deteriorated to the point that he couldn't do anything to protect the Church. Think Mother Angelica. How many years its been since her stroke.
