Family vacation time.

Mystery and adventure make for fun get-aways.
.
Once, when I was in 8th grade, my parents went out to do some errands on Friday night. They said they would be gone for awhile so I could fix supper for my little brother and myself - mom said, "You like doing that." (No, I really didn't.).
.
They never returned until the following Sunday afternoon, asking as they walked in the door, "Anybody call?" Later, I finally asked where they had been; they explained they needed a little vacation. Parenting can be very difficult.
.
The End.

Terry, is that your mom in the photo? She was a knock-out!

  3. "Why do you keep focusing on this subject?"

    LOL!

Um, Belinda, yep, ok, calm down.

Well, Ter, is it ok that they came back or would you rather they just left and stayed gone? I'm sure you've thought about that.

    Love you. Prayers here.

  5. No - it's not my Mom - I just found a period photo on line of two people at a bar.

  6. Belinda - I wonder if we are related?

Cath - LOL! No - abused kids usually want to be with their parents - they feel terrible when they are abandoned. But don't start feeling sorry - it is all water under the damn bar stool! LOL!

My older sister once told me that if our mother was an animal in the wild she would have eaten us!

  9. Wounded people who become parents pass on the woundedness. You have dealt with the woundedness beautifully, Terry.

  11. My dad has told me lots of stories about his mom and step-dad leaving him and his sister to go to Havana for a few dayswhen he was about 10 and his sister 8. He was stealing food at one point because the fridge was empty. I can't believe that a parent can't tell how damaging that is to a kid.

I've often said that without children most of us would never be able to fathom what God's love is like, but there are some parents that just don't seem to have that gene. Maybe they were damaged themselves.

  12. Nadja - Yes they were deeply damaged - anyone who acts like that today is likewise deeply damaged - which is why we can forgive them.
