First let me say I have great respect for Archbishop Chaput ...

But - has he noticed the negative culture generated by the Trump Administration?

Chaput:  “It’s just amazing to me how hostile the press is to everything the president does.

Really?

  1. This is a personal opinion of the archbishop. This is not theological teaching. We are completely free to disagree with His Eminence as much as we want to. But I have to admit, this does make me very leery of anything else the archbishop says.

The two saints of today, Cyril and Methodius, were violently opposed by the bishops of their time. And of courses we know how wrong the bishops of Henry VIII's time were. Bishops are not infallible by any means.

    1. Well, I don't usually have a problem with him, but I think people have to recognize the negative culture developing in this Administration and its media spokesmen - Miller, Conway, and Spicer all have problems telling the truth and the negative press starts with them. It's very bizarre, to say the least.

  2. Yeah, it's only the Archbishop's opinion but he is absolutely right. The "negative culture" is fostered by the media and entertainment "elites". They are joined by holier-than-thou progressive Catholics and the secular academy where all independent thought has been squashed. The ugly hate from the Left has done something for me that Trump himself couldn't accomplish during his campaign. They have put him in a positive light. By comparison with them, he looks like a man of reason. Unless the hysterical ranting of the left turns into reasoned dissent, Trump will garner sympathy and he will gain in popularity.

    1. I have to agree with some if not most of what you have posted but Terry does have a point as well.
I would have a better opinion of President Trump if he were to give the appearance of being less rash/brash, more prudent/measured in what he says, does.

Less Twitter rants would be nice. 😆

    2. I disagree - I see the negative culture created by Trump and his appointees. That said - I'm not a liberal and I think such classifications are ideological and inappropriate for Catholics.

Who are the holier than thou progressive Catholics? I thought the term was elites - not holier than thou?

Obviously I'm not up to date on the labeling system.

    3. We were writing at the same time Yaya - my response was for Charles.

    4. That's fine Terry. I don't know who the holier than thou progressive Catholics are either since I am always commending President Trump to the care of our beloved St. Joseph, so it ain't me. ;)

The negative swamp seems to be all the rage these days ... in and out of the Church.

We gotta watch our steps lest we fall in and drown too. Easier said than done though beginning with yours truly!

  3. I recall the prediction (prophecy) to watch for the time when bishops oppose bishops and cardinals cardinals. Was it Fatima, Garabandal, Akita, or Medjurgorie? I cannot keep them straight anymore. It definitely was not Flushing mystic Veronica what's her name! (Great gif Terry.) Well, here we are and here it is. No surprise that the poor laity are confused and falling into the trap of taking sides. Remember that other prophecy about many souls being lead to perdition? It all gets too complicated. The only comfort I get is Mary's promise that her Immaculate Heart will in th end triumph. Now that I can hold onto. The rest is just a distraction. Being humans however we love the drama of it all. I am still waiting for the Popes guidance on Medjurgorie. I tried reading some of the daily "messages" but find them confusing. Similar more to Lourdes then Fatima. Maybe that is Mary's point to us. Repent, because my son and I love you even though you are sinners. As for our politics, I am with Yaya and begging St. Joseph to help us all. My evening rosary is for Trump to be guided on the right path. It is never too late. Remember Mary promised us that! I believe her.
