Solemnity of Christ the King ...

Today, at the closing the Holy Door, the Holy Father reminded us:

“Because even if the Holy Door closes, the true door of mercy which is the heart of Christ always remains open wide for us. From the lacerated side of the Risen One until the very end of time flow mercy, consolation and hope." - Zenit

I love that the Church exalts Jesus Crucified as King, instead of displaying the mystery of Christ arrayed in pontificals and other earthly attributions of royalty and power.  (Not that there is anything wrong with that.)  The reign of Christ Crucified  is above politics and sects, worldly success and riches, merits and blessings to be counted and totaled up as it were.

It is about mercy and love, justice and peace.

He has scattered the proud in their conceit.  He has cast down the mighty from their thrones and has lifted up the lowly.

"This God does not have a fixed plan that he must carry out; on the contrary, he has many different ways of finding man and even of turning his wrong ways into right ways..." - Pope Benedict XVI

  1. When we went home after Mass this morning there was a small bunch of people parked on the street with signs announcing we were going to hell, etc. What a contrast to the homily we had just heard about Christ the King and the Year of Mercy! If these 'holy rollers' thought they were going to convert anyone they are dead wrong. They only confirmed to me that I am in the right church with the right pope for these times.

    1. That makes me think of the Westboro Baptists. I love those people. I hope you smiled and waved. :)

    2. They weren't quite at that level haha! They looked like the Duggars if the Duggars were hippies.

  2. Did I ever tell you about going to a Christmas service in Topeka several years ago? The First Presbyterian Church has Tiffany windows and although they say you can call and ask for a tour, we decided to go to the Christmas service. The church was large, the crowd was small, we were recognized as visitors and when they found out we were there for the windows, someone gave us a tour and gave us a booklet about the windows.

On our way to church we passed a batch of Westboro baptists picketing another church; there was a second pack of them at the church we were going to. I was proud to cross the picket line. I can't imagine teaching children that the way to show your love of God is to picket a church on Christmas day.
