God's crazy love for us ...

So amazed is Catherine of Siena at the endless mercy of God that she calls God “crazy.” In her Dialogues she writes, “O eternal beauty! O eternal goodness, O eternal mercy! O crazy lover! You have need of your creature? It seems so to me, for you act as if you could not live without her. Why are you so crazy? Because you have fallen in love with what you have made! You are pleased and delighted over her, as if you were drunk with desire for her salvation. She runs away from you and you go looking for her. She strays and you draw closer to her.” - Source

  1. Very interesting and perhaps touches on why Aquinas called his writings straw after experiencing Him.
Song for this post should be Heart's Crazy Over You.

  2. LOL...Love this quote...never thought of it that way...God is Glenn Close..."I WONT be IGNORED!" Just kidding. I feel Catherine was a little crazy herself (not that there is anything wrong with that...) so interesting and actually great quote...funny they had crazy lover's back then too, things just never change.

    1. Catherine of Sienna with her prisoner Niccolò di Toldo who was beheaded - she accompanied him, and received his head after the executioner's blow. The saint prepared him for death, comforted him by bringing him to the sacraments, helped him surrender to and accept the holy will of God - in this case his execution. I believe di Toldo was condemned as an agent of a papal diplomat or something.
