I do too - actually I have two copies - one I kept for 'good' but now both are marked up, countless post-its mark passages and the bindings are falling apart. My 1970's New American Bible is the same way. Of all the books I have, these two are the most read. And yet I'm no better for it ... not one bit.
Sirach 10:28 is only in the Catholic Bible yet Catholic saints would have been better off knowing it. Your last sentence needs its correction as do any saint who overdid the self affliction thingy. " With humility, have self esteem, prize yourself as you deserve.". That's God talking. You do much non paid work for God right here. He knows it. While bill donohue is making a brain surgeon's salary or the President's salary from Catholic donators....with less work than you. I can see him in a black turtleneck driving a Lambourghini in white. No....it doesn't work. He could afford a used or new Rolls which fits his physicality better.
ps I have Ott's Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma which now is a virtual deck of cards....so broken is the binding. Were our publishers skimping on the glue price? You never see those hotel Bibles breaking down from the Protestants.
