Fr. Robert Altier is back...

Except he never really went away.

In 2006 Fr. Altier was reassigned  from his position at St. Agnes in St. Paul, Minnesota to a more obscure assignment as a hospital chaplain.  Likewise he was more or less 'silenced' for his objections to VIRTUS training proposed by the Archbishop and Archdiocesan leaders sometime back in 2005-2006.  In other words his homilies could not be published and I think he was asked not to appear on radio, or something to that effect.  At any rate he has kept a fairly low public profile since that time.  (Fr. Altier set the record straight in 2006 here.)

Ten years after:

His Excellency, the Most Reverend Bernard Hebda, has announced the following appointments in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis:
Effective November 1, 2015
  • Reverend Robert Altier, appointed parochial vicar of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Goodhue, and the parish cluster of the Church of Saint Michael in Pine Island and the Church of Saint Paul in Zumbrota.

Just remember:
Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things
Whoever has God lacks nothing;
God alone suffices. - St. Teresa of Avila

Fr. Altier is living proof of St. Teresa's prayer.

He's an excellent priest.  Thanks be to God.

Ed. note: Nothing has been scheduled or announced yet, but I'm willing to bet pilgrimages will begin next spring.  What?

  1. A faithful, obedient servant of Our Lord. Like Padre Pio.

    1. You are absolutely right - he is also one of the very best confessors. Interestingly, one may get the impression he is rigid and uptight as we used to say - but he's very gentle and kind. I haven't seen him for years - but I expect he is even better.

  2. Wish all the best to Father Altier. I will miss discussing the "New World Order" with him, from time to time, after Mass. A very hard working devote shepherd. Hope he will be helping out at Holy Trinity on a regular basis. He will continue to be in my prayers.

  4. This is good news, but Fr. Altier didn't exactly disappear. His sermons have been published in The Wanderer for years. By the way, Terry, what happened to the post about the painting you finished. I was intrigued by the beginning and looked forward to reading the rest. What a disappointment to get the "not on this blog" message.

  6. Fr. Altier's hospital assignment ended about a year or so ago, and since then the Archdiocese had pretty much given him a "do your own thing" assignment. He's been very active helping out with Masses around southern St. Paul where needed, including saying the regular Sunday 8:00am EF Mass at St. Joseph's in Miesville for about the past 6-7 years or so.
