WOW! What if the Vatican really IS the seat of the antichrist?

Nah!  Couldn't happen!
.
Vatican document calls for global authority to regulate markets!!!
.
New World Order!
.
VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- A Vatican document called for the gradual creation of a world political authority with broad powers to regulate financial markets and rein in the "inequalities and distortions of capitalist development."

The document said the current global financial crisis has revealed "selfishness, collective greed and the hoarding of goods on a great scale." A supranational authority, it said, is needed to place the common good at the center of international economic activity.

The 41-page text was titled, "Toward Reforming the International Financial and Monetary Systems in the Context of Global Public Authority." Prepared by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, it was released Oct. 24 in several languages, including a provisional translation in English.

The document cited the teachings of popes over the last 40 years on the need for a universal public authority that would transcend national interests. The current economic crisis, which has seen growing inequality between the rich and poor of the world, underlines the necessity to take concrete steps toward creating such an authority, it said.

Holy crap Batman!  What does this mean?  Vatican approval for the Occupy Wall Street/ overthrow capitalism crowd?
.
Just kidding.  Or am I?  At any rate, don't worry, I'm sure there will be a retraction in the morning.  Fr. Z has a call into  Fr. Sirico at the Acton Institute - keep tuning in.

I believe in God.
.
Good news - Thomas Peters clears it all up for us here.
.
I still believe in God, the Father almighty...

  1. Considering all the existing candidates for supernational dominance (the UN, the EU, the courts at the Hague, etc.) are fundamentally anti-Christian in their rabid secularist outlook, how can anyone be so naive as to assume any such authority would be anything other than a hostile one?

If all is meant is that financial markets need to have some central regulations, I understand the need. But why should anyone assume that such an authority would limit their powers to that?

  4. How dare the Church not run this document past Z/Peters/et al first!

*shew* They said it can be ignored. Back to work, y'all.

  5. Thom, what about the questions I posed up there - I'm not the only one asking them.

  6. Well, I was commenting on Terry's post, not your comment, but I can give it a shot. :)

I think the important pieces to pull from this document are the ones that detail the height of the evil we are facing- this based on the self-same teachings of the Pope. I think that the suggestion proferred by the document for a central authority is a very general one, and such an authority would have to be created that would solve the problems you posed in your questions above.

The backlash against the document from other Catholics isn't even based on the governing authority suggestion- these are the same people who won't even take Rerum Novarum seriously, much less Pp. Benedict XVI's teaching on the subject.

It is simply another version of the same sort of "cafeteria Catholicism" of which they accuse everyone else who disagrees with them.

  7. "...Who runs the bank in heaven, or the Kingdom of God?..."

    Precisely.

When the Apostles returned with food, Jesus told them someone had given to Him that which He wanted to eat: Faith.

[10] Jesus answered, and said to her: If thou didst know the gift of God, and who he is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou perhaps wouldst have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

[11] The woman saith to him: Sir, thou hast nothing wherein to draw, and the well is deep; from whence then hast thou living water? [12] Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? [13] Jesus answered, and said to her: Whosoever drinketh of this water, shall thirst again; but he that shall drink of the water that I will give him, shall not thirst for ever: [14] But the water that I will give him, shall become in him a fountain of water, springing up into life everlasting. [15] The woman saith to him: Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come hither to draw.

The Holy Father is acting like the Apostles, using their worldly reasoning to solve a spiritual problem.

Money is the root of all evil.

Christ is not to be found there.

    Pray for the Holy Father.

  8. Pablo, how is the Holy Father being worldly, and what do you suggest he do, then (especially since you think all governments should be run by the pope)? Also, what do you propose as the solution to the problem?

If what you mean is that greed lies in men's hearts and that no worldly authority can do away with it, then we agree. The reason I believe most of these "make some authority that will have control over X" solutions is that it naively assumes that the secular authority in question would actually be just, honest, and uncorrupted by sin. Considering ALL supranational authorities, in particular the UN are incredibly corrupt, inefficient, and anti-Christian, it seems to me that the only answer would be universal conversion to Christ. But then there wouldn't be a problem anyway. If all men were sinless, we wouldn't even need regulations on the first place.

I'd say that money is not te root of all evil, but the inordinate love of money is. As is the inordinate love of anything else.

All systems if mass forced wealth redistribution have ended in poverty, death, and is usually accompanied by persecution of the Church.

  9. The State should submit itself to the Authority of Christ the King; His Vicar on earth being the Holy Father.

On matters of Faith and morals, the State as submissive to Christ, should make their decisions based on God's will.

Difficult but not impossible to accomplish.

In our families, we must act according to our stations: husbands, love your wives, children obey your parents.

For our society to be a good one, our women have to behave.

To a great extent the level of any civilization is the level of its womanhood. When a man loves a woman, he has to become worthy of her. The higher her virtue, the more her character, the more devoted she is to truth, justice, goodness, the more a man has to aspire to be worthy of her. The history of civilization could actually be written in terms of the level of its women.”

    -- Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

If we want our nations to be great, women need to up their game.

Prayer for Our Holy Father the Pope

O God, I pray for the intentions of the Pope. I ask You to grant him the ability to write well and to speak well so that he might lead Your people well. Grant him the gifts of faith, hope, love, charity, chastity, kindness, wisdom, patience, generosity, courage but most of all that he may be lead away from all heresy so that he might unite Your church and be with You one day in Heaven. Amen

By the Sign of the Holy Cross, from our enemies free us, O Lord, My God.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

The prayer of the children for their Holy Father.

  10. Pablo, you'd probably hate what Bishop Sheen said about the US Constitution and the Founding Fathers. Also, I seriously doubt the saintly archbishop would jace thought much of "Bishop" Williamson, except perhaps to pray for him.

And what he says about women is no doubt true, but he'd probably disagree that they misbehave by having jobs, wearing pants, and not getting their husband's permission for everything, and he never mentions your strange notion that the Church encourages men to use corporal punishment to discipline their wives, and he wrote a book on marriage.

  12. I'm not sure the world of government, politics and finance cares what the Vatican has to say about economics.

That said, I find it interesting the reactions this issue is generating.

This has been a satirical post in reaction to a Glenn Beck call to re-read the Book of Revelation, keeping in mind what it says about the antichrist and the Vatican.

    Nuts, anyone?

  13. He's a Mormon. They think we're the Antichrist anyway.

  14. See - I know nothing about Beck - I had no idea he is a Mormon.

  15. Convert to Mormonism, too. I understand those who were raised that way, but who can convert to Mormonism?

    ReplyDelete
  16. To me Mormonism is like Scientology.

  17. Every Mormon I have ever met is a very nice person, dedicated to their family and to God. But unfortunately, Mormonism is not Christian, however many feelings that may hurt.
