Why I'm posting about this nun.

I'm posting about Venerable Mother Elena simply because she is a mystic I had learned about when I was much younger. At the time I was convinced WWIII was about to begin any day back then, and that most of humanity would be wiped off the face of the earth. Mother Elena seemed to think so too. She had the stigmata, many visions, and dispensed a few apocalyptic-type prophecies. As I 'matured' I dismissed Mother Elena as an eccentric Italian nun. And now she will be beatified.

Catholics should know that persons beatified and canonized are never made saints based upon their mystical experiences, but rather upon their heroic virtue and witness to the Gospel. The miracles required for canonization are in effect God's confirmation of the candidate's sanctity. Nevertheless, I find it interesting that this 'prophet of doom' will soon be beatified.

Sister Elena's Prophesies

Sister Elena began having apparitions of The Blessed Mother. During these apparitions The Blessed Mother would tell Sister Elena things that might happen in the future if people did not amend their sinful ways. Many of her prophesies were apocalyptic in nature. Below are the words of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Sister Elena during one of these apparitions.

"My Heart is sad for so many sufferings in an impending world in ruin . . . The wrath of God is near. Soon the world will be afflicted with great calamities, bloody revolutions, frightful hurricanes and the overflowing of rivers and the seas . . . the world will be overturned in a new and more terrible war. Arms most deadly will destroy peoples and nations. The dictators of the earth, specimens infernal, will demolish the churches and desecrate the Holy Eucharist, and will destroy things most dear. In this impious war, much will be destroyed of that which has been built by the hands of man ..."

In 1940, Sister Elena received a message from Jesus and was asked to deliver this message to Premier Benito Mussolini. The message for Mr. Mussolini was not to join forces with Hitler in World War II. If this warning is not heeded Italy would suffer a terrible defeat and Mussolini would be punished and the result would be his total defeat and downfall. - A Saintly Cousin

I 1st heard of her many years ago. Still trying to make the connection to find out if she is a relative of mine. But I am happy to hear she is a step closer to being beatified.
ReplyDeleteWell, this is interesting. I haven't heard about the "minims" for many years. She was a mystic of doom all right, and greatly influenced Veronica and Mary Ann and most of the other "mystics", to the present day. No, I don't believe it. She may well have imagined Our Lady telling her that stuff -- the Pope being viciously kicked on the floor by the enemies (literally kicked on the floor) and the Soviet Red flag flying over the Dome of St. Peters, etc. etc. Was it the heeded warnings, and consequent prayers, that held back Our Lord's hand? Maybe things are still in the works? I'm sorry to sound so cynical. I'm glad that Catholics are not required to believe such stuff.

ReplyDeleteMichael - her prophecies seem so odd now that the political landscape has changed so radically - but at the time they comprised the things many people lived in fear of. The Russians are coming! The Russians are coming!
The Old Testament Prophets were also 'prophets of doom' because the people didn't like their message. As far as 'World War III' is concerned, many secular pundits predict it's already begun. There are several videos on youtube discussing this, not to mention various articles on the geopolitical strife in the world today evolving into that scenario. I am glad to hear that Sr. Elena Aiello will soon be declared venerable.

Cathy - Thanks, that is true about WWIII - some people think Russia has also invaded the West - what with our embrace of Marxist philosophy and other erroroneous ideologies which pervade the Western cultural landscape - as well as infiltrated even into the Church. The kicking of the Pope after he is cast to the floor could also be a metaphor for how he is treated by the anti-Catholic media.

ReplyDeleteThe Marxism in the west is not really traceable to Russia per se. Karl Marx was a cosmopolitan German, and the current regime of postmodernism and political correctness, cultural Marxism, etc can be laid at the feet of an Italian, Antonio Gramsci, and some more German professors, known collectively as the "Frankfurt School". Let's never forget that all Russia did was take the fashionable revolutionary ideas swarming around bourgeois Europe and America and applied them to their logical, brutal, disgusting conclusions.

Well Sister Elena Aiello isn't the only mystic in the history of the Church who sees the pope being driven from Rome. There are many European prophecies from seers that state this and Europe being attacked from the East. The German prophecies with which I am familiar all speak about this. All of them (the seers) lived in different places, at different times and were for the most part illiterate. So I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss this sort of thing.
