Poltical ads.

Listening, reading, watching all the political ads, I'd say they are pretty much all about money.  The moral issues seem to have taken a back seat.  That said, the Massachusetts Bishops have gone all out to focus Catholics' attention on the more important issues...
.
The bishops urged, "Go to the polls on election day and, through your choices at the ballot, act on your vision of a better society." - Source
.
Fortunately, Cardinal-designate Archbishop Burke is more forthcoming in his advice:  "No, you can never vote for someone who favors absolutely the right to choice of a woman to destroy a human life in her womb or the right to a procured abortion."
.
But of course people say Burke was sent to the Vatican to shut him up, so it doesn't matter.  Or does it?

  1. From the Zenit source, it does appear that the Bishops did list some "measuring rods":

"These include the defense of the sanctity of life, the family based on marriage between a man and a woman, religious freedom, and the well-being of the poor."

But, I sense too that the other statements seem to neutralize the "measuring rods" with the term "human rights" and "yours" while not providing some Catholic understandings.

For instance, "Human Rights" is even used by Planned Parenthood and it is a term that needs Catholic understanding.

The report's last line ... with the "yours" ... well ... "your choice" "your vision" sounds so popular. Hope everyone's "vision" is rightly formed.

I am pleased the Bishops are showing some united voice and encouraging the Catholic citizens to vote.

It will be an interesting election ...

  2. yeah the claim that his grace was sent to the vatican to shut him up never made sense to me, especially the significant job he has. if anything, he now has a megaphone for the Church universal vs. lacrosse or st. louis. i have just one thing to say to the dissenters: :p

  3. Thanks Paula for including that - I think it was a rather weak statement nonetheless.
