Burning the Quran: What Would John Paul "the Great" Do?

  1. Profound image. I had forgotten Pope John Paul II has shown reverence to the Muslim holy book. Clearly burning the Quran serves no purpose. But it still bothers me when "certain elements" who report these types of stories bend over backwards in praise, or at least in defense, of Muslim adherents (this story and the mosque in NY). When they can thrash Christianity, especially Catholicism, they take full advantage of the opportunity. This type of hypocrisy really gets MY BLOOD BOILING and makes me want to describe these "defenders" of the NY mosque in words completely unsuitable for a decent blog like yours.

  2. Well apparently the Dove Outreach group got the word when they were raided by the FBI and secretary of defense Gates got through to Pastor Terry on the phone. The burning has been called off.

A funny aside to this for me was the discovery that Pastor Jones has less than 50 parishioners at Dove Center. Shades of Pastor Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist outfit! Those squeaky wheels have learned how to get the attention and media coverage they crave.

  3. I was sure he would have to back down - 50 member church - so weird.

  4. Somehow, this image and the media hype of burning of the koran bring to mind the prayer of the priest in the TLM before he reads from the Gospel:

Cleanse my heart and my lips, O Almighty God, who didst cleanse the lips of the prophet Isaias with a burning coal, and vouchsafe, through Thy gracious mercy, so to purify me, that I may worthily pronounce Thy holy Gospel.

What the heck is JPII kissing the koran for anyway? Quick, burn his lips! And then give him the real Gospel!

  5. Paramedicgirl - no one knows why the Holy Father kissed it... I can't figure it out, that's for sure.
