Esteemed Colleagues

Facade Orvieto Cathedral detail.

One Peter Five

I was interested in just who writes for 1P5 other than Steve Skojec.  It appears he's assembled a rather distinguished group of contributors - here.

[I checked it out because 1P5 is one of many sites with pop-ups requesting donations to finance the site whenever you click on the home page.  Does that mean contributors are paid?  I also came across something on another site linking to a Catholic Fundraising site, offering training for Catholic fundraising.  There must be a lot of money in pious gossip, speculation, detraction and dissimulation.  Of course there are good fundraising causes as well, such as replicating grand medieval abbeys in the countryside.]

  1. Money flows like water these days. Always does it seems before a crash. Where is the monastery being replicated? I have read about New Clarvieux in California. Is that the one you are referring to?

    1. Nothing in California. I was thinking of 'new' foundations.

    2. At New Clairveux in Ca. Their project is rebuilding a medieval monastery moved stone by stone from Spain by Randolph Hearst 100 years ago. It sat in a wharehouse all these years. Fascinating project.

    4. Dear friend wh,

I am unable to resist one more pinch before the year 2016 ends ... therefore:

      "wharehouse"

Are you referring to a house that is for hares? A house where hares can take refuge? Or are you meaning warehouse as in "store (goods) in a warehouse."

I suppose a wharehouse would be rather rambunctious with so many "hares" around, while a warehouse would be rather stoic and boring and well, adventourous since one never knows what one will find. ;)

Anyway, as you are a good sport, I wish you and yours a very Happy New Year! May the good Lord bless you richly in 2017!

    5. Why wait? There already exists the Cloisters in NYC, composed of French and Spanish monasteries, and filled with Romanesque aand Medieval art. My favorite museum in NY (except they didn't have a cafe the last time I visited).

Oh, and Yaya, a "whare" is a Maori hut or house, so "wharehouse" is just repetitive, like shrimp scampi, or bunny rabbit.

    6. I love the Cloisters too - I love the surrounding neighborhood as well. It is so perfectly situated. And then, and then, I love the Angel Tree at the Met.

  2. Geez, it is partly a list of nobody importantly in traddie land ... and of the known quantities, some of the most notorious characters in traddie land. Of their crimes, many are already on the path to dissenting against the Church, and some like Hilary have already embraced heresy.

    1. Julian do you mean HRC? She is not Catholic but Methodist. How could she embrace heresy?

  3. Off topic but I have a question - I want to learn more about Fatima in preparation for the 100th anniversary - can you recommend a good book (or 2?) Something solid but not overly intellectual.

    1. Fr. Apostoli - otherwise, Fr. Fox was very good.

    2. I got a book for kids called "The Children of Fatima" by Mary Fabyan Windeatt. It has made up dialogue but the Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur. I will start with that for the basics and it also gives me good visuals. Then I will move on to Fr. Apostoli's book. Happy New Year, Terry!
