In addition to WYD this weekend: The Courage Conference is going on in Mundelein.

Thursday, July 25 - Sunday, July 28 University of St. Mary of the Lake, Mundelein, Illinois                  


Many high profile commenters to this blog will be there.  I haven't received one update however.  Not a word.  They are so secretive.  I wonder if anyone is sporting a bow-tie?

    Good pic, cause we all know the Cowardly Lion was gay....

    Plus, he was way too into that perm and makeover he was getting.

    I had my suspicions about the Tin Man too actually. I hope the two are happy together, in their loft in the Emerald City.

    But not the Scarecrow, the Scarecrow was the MAN!

      Seriously, this is the first time I have ever heard that about the Lion - I never ever thought about the characters like that. I don't think any of them were intended that way.

    Well of course I don't think Baum intended them that way, but Bert Lahr sure did "play," it that way...chewing up all the scenery as he did! (Trivia fact, in the scene that Dorothy slaps the Lion in the nose, Garland couldnt stop laughing when Lahr was camping it up and crying..the director had to yell at her. You can still see her trying to cover up her laughter in that scene.)

      Was Burt Lahr gay? I loved him - the Lion was my favorite character of the three.

      Naww. Lahr wasnt gay...he just flamed it up as the Lion, I think cause he was supposed to be a "sissy." I thought the Lion was the funniest but like Dorothy herself, I like Scarecrow the best.

    Well he was married twice (his first wife died) and he had three children....I loved the character too and as far as the makeover scene- that is just the sort of thing to appeal to a little girl at that time. I used to dress up my stuffed animals and the neighbor's dog.
