Benedict XVI

Our Holy Father knows what is wrong and loves the Church more than himself.  He knows what is necessary for Holy Church.

I love him so much.

The Church, we, are fortunate and blessed to have known him.

I'm still very sad.

I never thought I could feel so sad...

Of all the popes in my life, I loved him the most.

  1. I'm sorry that you're feeling sad about the news of the pope's resignation. It is a lot to attempt to comprehend. My apologies too for not responding to your recent e-mail. I hope to get to that sometime tomorrow or Wednesday.

    Peace,

    Michael

  2. Benedict's decision was surely influenced by what he experienced during the last years of JPII and I believe that his resignation shows true humility. It is extremely rare for someone in great authority to step aside voluntarily. I also think that this is a real gift to all the future Bishops of Rome.

  3. I'm with you, Terry, and parepidemos.

This man is a towering intellect, yet constantly shows great humility and love. He really has been so fatherly.

He's the only pope of my (Catholic) life. I am still somewhat confused and sad, mostly because I have so much affection for him. But I am willing to trust him one more time.

  5. Terry,
an G+ friend of mine started thankyoupopebenedict.com last night and I have been helping moderate the torrent of expressions of thanks. Maybe visit and add one of your own.

Sad, am I for he has been this convert's Papa (we came home in 2006 and my conversion went into warp speed not long before that, about the time of BJPii's body's death. I absolutely connected most with B16. His renouncement of the Chair only heightens my respect for him, my confidence in his love of the mystical body of Christ, in his respect for the Peterine office and his wisdom to trust in Christ.

So, yes sad, sad as any child might be seeing a lovely and wise parent decline but, brimming with hope. We love our Vicar and our hope is in Christ.

  6. He stressed reason at Regensberg, in the condom comment that got him in trouble with many, and here in this decision. Your photo is perfect, Terry.
He is walking away from us and towards that white light world of contemplation. I imagine the lyrics of Jonny Lang coming from him to us...." just one thing...I got to say....I actually love ya....and now I'm walking away."

Thank you so much for writing this. I know that you did not write it to make me feel better, but you did make me feel better. After reading and listening to so much vitriolic and truly twisted commentary over the past 24 hours, I have felt sick and battered; you can only read the comments "sick old perverted nazi" so many times before wanting a second flood to come and reboot this planet. Your comments, Terry, and everyone's comments in your combox really helped me today.

There was a comment in our local paper which was so ugly and perverted about our beloved pope that it brought tears to my eyes and made me sick to my stomach--I couldn't believe what I was reading. I agree, Terry's heartfelt comments were like a salve to my wounded spirit. I come here at the end of the day and his blog always refreshes and renews me.......Maria

  8. I do love to see the immense outpouring of love in the Catholic blogosphere for our Pope. I rarely read secular commentary on the Catholic world so I've managed to avoid most of the vitriol.

    God bless him.
