Before Mass began the music director offered a short video presentation on the new Missal and some of the changes. Quick and informative. I have no idea what other people thought, but I can't understand why anyone would object to a more faithful translation.

Coming back from Communion two different old people grabbed my hand and said hello. Isn't that nice? Awkward, but very touching. It was totally spontaneous. God bless them.

We would never get videos at our parish. At most, you might see a projector casting song lyrics on a barren portion of the Church walls (not at every mass, btw).
It's always nice to see venerable older folks at mass. Humble and (mostly) content and free of prideful/ ego contamination.

ReplyDeleteStarted my new job. I have the great fortune of having a daily 11:15 AM Mass said by the most wonderful priest. Originally from Lebanon and an old Diocesan priest, I cannot remember the last time I encountered such a simple, holy and loving priests. Nor can i remember the last time I heard such homilies and on a daily basis. Isn't God great? I am so blessed...
Meant to make clear the Mass is right in my building. How wonderful is that,d huh?

ReplyDeleteFr. Erik, LOL!! In my parish outside Montreal, Canada, there has not been ONE WORD about the new translation. I'm not surprised. My pastor says that "whenever anything comes from Rome, we close our eyes" (direct quote). It often strikes me that most people in our parish are in their own little "bubble" of affluence and don't want anyone disturbing them. So it continues to be the same old, same old...

I don't get all the brouhaha....our pastor has put placards in the pews showing the changes in the prayers and responses. Is it really that different? It just seems more meaningful and intentional. Why would something like that get people mad?
