LGBT month news. What? Obama declared it so.

The backlash. Gay supporters of Obama are mad because he endorsed some legal brief about SS marriage. Oh - here it is: "Last week, President Obama’s Justice Department filed a legal brief against same sex marriage in which it compared gay unions to incestuous ones and that of an underage girl – in the sense that states have the right to not recognize marriages that are legal in other states or countries." - Source

Although the administration seems to be trying to patch things up today: "President Barack Obama, whose gay and lesbian supporters have grown frustrated with his slow movement on their priorities, is extending benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees..." - Source

As time goes on, more and more Obama supporters are going to have to face the disappointment of being disappointed by the man. Did you know American doctors actually booed the President when he spoke to the American Medical Association last Monday? - Source The incident hardly got a mention on regular network news.

So anyway - I doubt Obama is the answer to any one's prayers, hopes, or dreams.

I have stuff to do this afternoon so I may not finish the hedge, or paint. I was going to attend Mass this morning, but I didn't feel well - I've been to the doctor.

A 10 minute visit for just under $200. He neither offered or suggested any tests, he didn't even listen to my chest. I asked him about it and he waved me off. I'm self pay - I am not an insured customer - I know, SB patient. Doctors employed by Allina (the insurance company which runs the clinic) seem to earn more profit for the company by catering to patients covered by insurance agencies or medicare, so I got the feeling my doctor was giving me the bum's rush - he renewed my prescriptions for another year, said goodbye, and that was it.

Is there anything like an old fashioned GP with a private office now days? Like a beautician who operates out of the basement of his house? Or someone who can just dispense pain medication? I'm just asking here.

Which reminds me, I have to clean my basement but I don't want to.

ReplyDeleteI'm often rushed at the dr, and I *do* have decent insurance. They just don't care. More patients, more appointments, more money. It makes me feel awkward when I'm there, and unfortunately I'm a frequent visitor.
Consider a Nurse Practitioner.
ReplyDeleteOur GP is a personal friend so I go to his office's NP. (It's a little wierd having dinner with someone who has to look you over in a paper gown.)
They tend to enjoy working with patients in a higher level role, and they typically are granted a little more time with patients.
Hope you are feeling better.
Some doctors booed the president, presumably because he's rocking their boat. A clinic charges you $200 for doing basically nothing and rubber-stamping some prescriptions for another year (I wish Marcus Welby hadn't retired, too!) Some boats need to be rocked.

ReplyDeleteHope your feeling better soon. It's good the doc's didn't give you more drugs--sometimes the side-effects make you feel worse than you did when you started, but at least it distracts you from the original problem.

My doctor treats me very kindly. He's patient, gentle and listens. That said, the doctor is there to take care of the body and not be a nanny. Some things really don't need an hour especially if the doctor knows full well what the real deal is with the patient.

Terry - Our doctor got up one day and decided that he wasn't going to play "insurance company games" anymore. He said "he didn't become a doctor to have some low level pencil pusher tell him he could only spend 3 minutes per patient."
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't accept any insurance. If you want to file with your company after paying him for your visit they send it to a billing company that charges you $2 to file your claim.
And how is that working? Beautifully! I pay approximately $75.00 for a visit that usually lasts for at least an hour if not longer.
My yearly "well exam" with the girly stuff, et al ran about $175.00 and took about 1 1/2 hours.
There has got to be at least one doctor in the Twin Cities that does this. Ask around...
