"Even if [the Pope were an incarnate devil], we ought not to raise up our heads against him, but calmly lie down to rest on his bosom... He who rebels against our Father is condemned to death, for that which we do to him we do to Christ: we honor Christ if we honor the Pope; we dishonor Christ if we dishonor the Pope." - S. Catherine of Siena

ReplyDeleteWait Terry, the Vatican's supposed concessions to Communist China Government on appointment of Bishops is the next volly to fire up all the anti Francis forces. Not sure what the truth is but this is a biggie.
ReplyDeleteI know. Wish I could laugh.
DeletePerhaps the Vatican and current Pope know something we do not know, or understand. Perhaps China's current atheist, Communist regime is not really communist and non-Christian. Perhaps it all just a question of "discernment" and post-modernist decisions within personal discernment parameters on whether or not China's communist regime is kosher enough for Catholics or other Christians to entrust with the government and bishoprics of the Church of the King of Kings.
DeleteDon't know what St Catherine of Siena would declare, had she lived today.
I was given her name when I converted by my priest when I tried to choose a lovely, neutral biblical name like Anna/Hannah ( my first Protestant baptismal name of three). But no, Father decided I was to be the slightly crazy Catherine who spoke when she should be silent etc. (my middle baptismal name, lol.)
Just sayin'. If I anger readers here, complain to Father J. somewhere in Africa. HIs darn fault!
Terry, I love your blog.
Sorry if I am a pain in the neck most of the time.
Catherina (what a lovely name!) - My Confirmation name is Catherine, for Catherine of Siena. I did not give it an awful lot of thought at the time, and thought it was rather nice because my grandmother and a favorite aunt were named Catherine.
DeleteAs I have grown older, I find it so ironic that I am also named for St. Catherine. I have spoken up to those who do not want to hear what I have to say. Sometimes it is to priests who do not want their decisions questioned, and who have developed grudges against me because of it.
I take great consolation and guidance from some advice I was given in Confession by a former pastor (we had also disagreed on occasion, but the next time he saw me he would put an arm around my shoulder and tell me we were still friends.) He told me it is okay to speak up when we have something important to say. Just to remember to say it with charity and without anger. He told me St. Peter and St. Paul (my birthday saints) were always putting their foot into their mouths, but God still made great saints of them, so think of what He can do for me!
Anyway, God bless you, sister. And Terry, I love your blog, too!
God bless and protect all here - Susan, ofs
Catherine - you are not a pain in the neck at all - I am most appreciative of your thoughtful comments.

ReplyDeleteCushingism is the only theology used by the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement and the Neo Catechumenal Way : this is not the work of the Holy Spirit.

And yet, she wrote him letters, and visited him telling him what he is doing is wrong. St. Catherine would be the first in line to criticize Francis for his heresies.
ReplyDeleteAloysius, which heresies had Pope Francis infallibly made dogma for the Universal Catholic Church? In your opinion?
ReplyDeleteShouldn't you be a little more circumspect when you say these things?
So anyway - the gif was meant to be funny, the quote from Catherine serious. I don't know much about the China question - I suspect the Vatican knows more than we do - the new regime in China appears to be clamping down so perhaps this is a way to keep communication open? I dunno - it's beyond my knowledge and expertise. The accusations against the Pope are piling up but I have not lost my confidence and pray for him daily - throughout the day. I'm not worried.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Terry. Papa is close to our heavenly Mother Mary. She will continue to be his joy and his hope despite all the unfounded rumors, smears and false accusations of heresy.
DeleteMay he remain close to her, under her holy mantle as he continues to go about working in the vineyards of our Lord.
"If the Pope is wicked and especially if he is foreknown, then as Judas, the Apostle, he is of the devil, a thief, and a son of perdition, and he is not the head of the holy militant Church, since he is not a member of it." - CONDEMNED among the Errors of Hus by the Council of Constance (1414-1418).
ReplyDeleteLooks like the Rad Mad Trads have forgotten that very Traditional Council. =)
